Lost, but not Forgotten
Post #1     Posted on: April 24, 2010, 01:46 PM

Somewhere in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle, lies an island that never was. A rift between two realms has opened, taking travelers along with it. Throughout the ages, ships, planes, and other travelers have disappeared, seemingly without a trace. Those able to survive the ravaging waves and impending wreck, have set up a sort of refuge on the island. With no hope of escaping back to their own realm, they've opted instead to make the island a home. In an attempt to survive, despite disputes among the people, refugees have formed a sort of tribe. Some have taken to living with the sea, somewhat isolated from the island itself. Others have opted instead to live in the upper elevations of the island, seemingly safer from dangers below. They've also come to realize that they are not the first to find the island. It seems, an age ago, a band of pirates managed to figure out how to pass between realms, and used the island as their own hideaway. The problem is that they've vanished, leaving no clues for escaping.

Of course, this is all just back story for what I hope to be a dazzling water park. Many of you may recognize some concepts from Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, and even Blizzard Beach. If this is the case, I am glad. They are wonderful parks. Nevertheless, I plan to make this park my own.

First, a disclaimer. The following shots are taken with allusion to the story. Thus, you'll find each one was taken during the course of one of the frequent storms that is said to plague the island.

Enjoy, and stay tuned for more.  Grin

looks good, very well executed and looks excellent, i see it more as your own style then from the Disney Waterparks, which isn't a bad thing by miles  Cheesy. looking forward to more of this water-park, maybe you could add some things relevant to the Pirates being there before - maybe some hidden pirates  Smiley or a pirate ship fireworks show like on the first park of the Soaked waterpark.

Good Luck with this and I look forward to the next update.

With the rock type, rain, and tropical fell, it sorta looks like Skull Island from King Kong!
Nice job! Cheesy

The whole thing looks wonderful, but my favorite part is the queue for the lazy river. There's so much detail packed into such a simple part of the park.

Oh my that sure is beautiful! Great amounts of details and beautiful landscaping, something that you've always been good at.

However, I think it would be best if you changed the backstory a bit, and removed the part about leaving no traces behind, as I think it would be cool to have a beached ship or two around the island. I think you could do some interesting things with that, though I'm not sure how possible it would be in RCT3. Still, I think you can do something along those lines, but still leave no clues as to how to escape. Tongue

Of course it's excellent. The story reminds me a tad of LOST, but everything does nowadays... I like the look of the park a ton, especially the rocks instead of in game terrain. And it surprisingly looks very natural.

Oh trust me, you've yet to even see the pirate section. Those little buggers were smart and took refuge on a smaller, nearby island.

However, I think it would be best if you changed the backstory a bit, and removed the part about leaving no traces behind, as I think it would be cool to have a beached ship or two around the island. I think you could do some interesting things with that, though I'm not sure how possible it would be in RCT3. Ahh... I think the problem is more my presentation of that bit of the story. By "no traces," I was referring to the fact that our realm can find no traces of their disappearance, other than the fact that they cannot be found. The plan is to have some wrecked ships of various eras as well as downed planes. It's all a matter of finding or creating the right pieces. Btw, there are methods for the peeps to leave the island. They've just been unable to locate any other islands (aside from the pirate's hideout) and the waters around the island seem to be a dangerous place to travel. It seems as if a perpetual storm ravages those seas....

The story reminds me a tad of LOST, but everything does nowadays...

Once again, I think a lot of that is more my presentation than the story itself. For one thing, I've seen maybe two episodes of lost, and never really had an interest in it otherwise. Perhaps it was the allusion to some sort of creature on the island... rest assured, I'm not planning to have some monster... just perhaps a noteworthy creature... or creatures. As for the stranded island, I thought it was a nifty way to give the island a unique story. I mean, it's taking inspiration from TL and BB, so it needs some sort of story to explain the theming.

To everyone, thank you for the support. I'm really enjoying everything with this park. The story provides plenty of ideas for construction and concepts, it's just a matter of finding a water slide layout that is smooth and yet allows for effective theming. While a majority of the slides will be somewhat plain, two are planned to be more heavily themed. Unfortunately, they are also proving to be the biggest pain.

You really got yourself a nice style and it changes from the regular theme Park and rollercoaster rides.
Nice work also on the story, i can easily imagine slides going through wrecked boats or planes.

I love the mysterious stuff like the Bermuda Triangle. I'll be keeping an eye on this to see what fantastic things you'll do with it!

I also love the use of barrels under those platforms in the first picture. I don't think I've seen that in RCT3 before.

Wow Lost! This is awesome! The rocks around the lazy river is very nice. I have a question about the slide though. Is it a body slide or one of the mat slides where you skid across the water? If it's a body slide then it should extend out more when it flattens out. Also, where are the inflatable tubes from?

I love the screens - they are incredible and you have a good way with water parks - you have a sticking style.
I don't know... whilst the story sounds thought out, it's not clicking for me, or well.. I don't understand it. I mean, is this a water park with a back story or is the water park part of a real story - the lost travelers made a water park? It would be much better if this water park had a fictional backstory (like the sorts of Islands of Adventure), this would make it much more realistic and work.. I suppose I am looking at this from a realistic point of view because this does look realistic. I hope this is the case otherwise it just doesn't work for me. This is obviously personal preference...
The pictures look great anyway!

Thanks! I've never really been one for creating theme parks. My coasters are usually far too grand and then I lose interest in developing the rest of the park. Besides, water parks have always been my favorite topic.

I love the soberness with the rain

Thanks, Leonidas. I felt that, for the first update, it'd be better to relate it to the story. The rest will be taken during the day, in sunny weather. Smiley

It's a water park with a back story. I've never been one to build a park as part of a story, so I figured I'd change things around and come up with a story as part of the park. However, in the interest or graphics and my own taste, I've removed the background. It is supposed to be along the coast, but no RCT3 background would properly convey that...so... no background. Smiley

I love the mysterious stuff like the Bermuda Triangle. I'll be keeping an eye on this to see what fantastic things you'll do with it!

I also love the use of barrels under those platforms in the first picture. I don't think I've seen that in RCT3 before.

Same here. While I may not always buy in to paranormal stories and what not, I cannot deny that they interest me. It's entertaining to see people try to explain every little detail because they can't accept that some things can't be explained. The barrels were actually a substitute. My intention was to use flotation rafts and other buoyant devices, but I found no such items. I even attempted Shy's recolorable rocks, but they were a little too bulky.

This is just good. buildings look amazing and even those little tubes  Shifty
You are the master of waterparks

Thanks JB. It's odd. Normally I'd have a problem with the tubes being neat and stacked, but even in real life the tubes are more likely to be stacked than randomly strewn about.

Wow Lost! This is awesome! The rocks around the lazy river is very nice. I have a question about the slide though. Is it a body slide or one of the mat slides where you skid across the water? If it's a body slide then it should extend out more when it flattens out. Also, where are the inflatable tubes from?

It's a body slide. I could look into extending it out a bit, but I'm fairly comfortable with the current length of the flat section. I think part of the issue is the angle. It makes the bottom look shorter. The tubes are from Smallish's water park set.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Well, for starters, I'll give you two of the shots that I happen to like. They're sunny versions of the earlier shots, so nothing new here.

To finish things out, I'll leave you with a small teaser. Wink

The storyline that's put into this and the setting really make it so much more of an enjoyable park to follow. I really hope you continue with this, it could be legendary, so to speak! Wonderful plot you have there.
Mayday Island "Teh Island that was not there" or something along that.
Why in the world they would build an amusement park while they were struggling for their lives, I have no idea.
Every single shot looks AMAZING.
It looks so...desolate...so..islandy...
and definetly MYSTERIOUS

Pretend this is an awsome sig that so awesome you cant believe it.
