[Discussion] How can I get better?
« on: May 20, 2019, 11:48 AM »
Hey everyone! I have been thinking of ways to get everyone to get into deep discussions with reflecting on your own strengths and weaknesses. This is going to only relate to RCT Games and gameplay. Not only are we going to discuss what we are good/bad at, but maybe someone disagrees or even wants to help you. Please share I am looking for constructive feedback not destructive feedback! I am going to make kind of a list, so if you have your own criteria definitely share.

Amazing/Strengths
Working with custom content
Park entrances
Real world inspirations

Okay/Needs Improvement
Paths
Keeping the story/consistency

Not To My Standard/Work In Progress
Landscaping
Theming continuity
Mixing scenery/variation

These are some of the things I notice, please do not beat yourselves up. Just make it to where you can say this is possible not impossible. Any questions, comments, concerns can be presented below, but if you need anything personal please contact me! Have a thrilling Monday!

My strengths:
Utilizing the custom scenery to its fullest when I'm feeling creative
Being able to create good "loosely based off" rides with a bit of a twist
My weaknesses:
Need to work on creating good structures with a consistency
Need to stop leaving unfinished parks collect dust

Amazing/Strengths
I'm not Narcissistic enuff to toot my own horn.

Okay/Needs Improvement
My imaination is not what it used to be.
Doing a proper story line, story telling needs work.
Suck art wise, little or no original graphics. Alpha or otherwise.
Decreasing polys, and file sizes, needs much work.
Combining existing sets, need work.

Not To My Standard/Work In Progress
Lots of stalled, or incomplete projects.
Some may be to ambitious for my Novice skill level.

---
Don't feel I'm beating-myself-up, or being over critical. Just simple truths.
Have a mixed set project, contaning some Halloween items, that has been in
production for about 3 (4) years now.  To me, not fancy or very elaborate.  But...
as I learn possible better ways to design them... they get modified.  Now that
set may be to large (and/or bulky) to actually finish.  Or submit to SGW.  It does
also contain some models based on a few paper-model objects.
Maybe I should attempt to re-group the objects.  Then release them as
smaller sets.  Suggestions might be welcome.

I do a lot of the same things as you. Sometimes analyzing yourself can help show others that we all have similarities when it comes to our works and how we manage them. Well done!

I would say the regroup and make smaller sets would be a smart decision. I have never created custom content, so my opinion may not mean much. I know I have issues with projects getting delayed or even quiet, but sometimes I say when I get quiet that is when things get planned. Good analysis!

Ha ha, don't we all? @Cody. I also find time away from the computer helps regather my thoughts and ideas for new concepts in my park, (especially when my creative juices aren't flowing). When I am in the mood to play rct3 again, I find my creativity tends to take off like a rocket when I'm away from the game for long extended periods and gain a boost of productivity from that missed time.  :)
