OT: Wow, great trailer, it's gonna be a long wait but I don't think we'll be disappointed!

Very promising start. This looks like the true successor to RCT3 regardless of the name. Looking forward to real gameplay vids and more info.

In the mean time, let's look at this flat ride:

I kinda like it. It has an interesting mix of cartoony absurdism, while keeping physics in check.

And in a true RCT3 fashion, this is based on a real ride!

Dang, so much win right there. The trailer, the cartoony-yet-realistic style, the 3D models... :w00t:

So far, so good.  There are still a lot of unknowns, so we'll have to wait and see....

As much as I love the cartoony style, it really just reminds me of a higher detail Thrillville. I want a game that's fully generic with options for theming, I don't want the flat rides to be themed themselves. What if I want that Brain Drain ride to be in my western section? This is partially what makes RCT-RCT2 so fun to use, they are purely generic at the base and can be themed to whatever you want.

The reason for the name change and a few other bits of info.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/06/elite-dangerous-developers-talk-to-ars-about-planet-coaster/

Nice read.
In case you didn't read it - a few snippets of interest...

Built on COBRA engine which "...actually has a theme park heritage, being first developed to power Frontier’s 2004 Roller Coaster Tycoon 3."

"Frontier’s PR confirmed to us that players will be able to build connected “villages” of parks and share coaster designs with each other."

"The game can be preordered directly from Frontier right now, and the company is also offering additional perks that can be purchased, all the way from early beta access to having your name indelibly printed on in-game paving bricks."

I'm really interested in this one. Frontier made a good job with RCT3, so now, ten years later (and without Atari!) they can make a great thing. It looks like the sucessor of this great saga (and not that one with the same name). Trailer looks promising, nice graphics and some interesting things, such as the offgrid feel. I don't like the coasters, but seeing what they did with RCT3 I can't see them looking worse than that one. Well, let's see if they finally deliver!

I know right, hence why I'm not expecting any of the new theme park games (mainly RCTW, PC, Parkitect) to be able to reach that goal, sadly - so my hopes are now for a fun, not-so-unrealistic game. Yet if you look back at the RCT3 trailers, that was even worse on this aspect. Remember the mine-shaft free-fall, the skeleton chair swing, the space-ship simulator...
And Frontier also refer to this as a "sandbox game", which is good news! The key now is customization.

JCat your still around?

Also I have some good vibes about this. It seems like that there giving care and tender love to this game. Hopefully the updates keep bringing that vibe!
Wagibear "It is entirely possible that Atari will attend in a different way than as a exhibitor. Someone may park their van outside the Convention Center entrance with a big Atari RCTw banner draped in the front window.  Or maybe Mattlab will dress in a trenchcoat and approuch anyone with a PRESS badge and whisper  "Psst!  Hey, wanna see a new video game?"... I'm happy as long as they keep the diagonal paths in the trailer (if I remember correctly)

I have to say that what we've seen brought a lot of joy to my heart. It reminds me of RCT but with a needed updated and it definitely looks to have a lot better coaster building system. It looks like they really care about the game itself and they know who they're selling to, which is us. Not to mention the way it looks is still cute and fun! Very excited, and they definitely have my support.
