“Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” –Walt Disney

Walt Disney was raised in a small town in northern Missouri named Marceline. It was here that the basis for Disneyland’s Main Street USA came. The idea of small town America at the turn of the century is one many wish could still exist.

As a tribute to Walt Disney and his unique imagination and ingenuity, Walt Disney Imagineering has announced a new park to be opened in Marceline in 2017. Construction has already begun and here is a quick preview of the park that will be known as Disneyland USA.

The park will feature seven themed lands, some classics, some brand new, and others that build upon previous ideas. Main Street America will be a blast-from-the-past for local park-goers, as the past is resurrected in the form of brightly colored buildings filled with delectable sweets and memorable souvenirs.

Tomorrowland is devoted to a fictional view of the future and what lies beyond our sight of the cosmos. Misfit space-outlaws take you on a thrilling ride through the farthest reaches of the galaxy in Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Coaster. Tony Stark intends to educate the world on clean energy when the Stark Expo comes under attack from Hydra. It’s up to you to defend the arc reactors powering Tomorrowland in Iron Man Experience.

Fantasyland brings old and new faces together in a harmonious village. While their stories and styles differ, Mickey, Dumbo, Pinocchio, Alice, the Seven Dwarfs, Peter Pan, Belle and the Beast, and Anna and Elsa welcome aspiring fairy tale stars into their worlds.

Starport highlights an outpost planet in the Outer Rim of the Galactic Republic. When a small trading settlement comes under siege by the First Order, the Resistance enlist your help in the fight. Hop on the Millennium Falcon and fight off attacking Tie Fighters in Smuggler’s Quest. Alternatively, stay on solid ground and fend off invading Stormtroopers in Star Wars: Battle Escape

Discovery Isle brings the ideas and stories of Jules Verne to life. A sister land to Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris and Mysterious Island at Tokyo DisneySea, explore a volcanic island in the middle of murky waters. Rumble along a rushing river in Mysterious River Rapids. Glide over the globe in Soarin’ Around the World in 80 Days. Blast out from steam filled caves in an out-of-control mineshaft on Geyser Mountain.

Adventureland is set in the middle of the Indian jungle, in a village recently colonized by the British. Stroll through bustling street markets, or journey deep into the canopies. The Jungle Book brings the classic animated characters of Mowgli and Baloo to life. The Jungle Cruise, a Disney classic, takes a new trip through crocodile infested waters and ape filled trees. Safari Adventure tours the Indian plains and ancient temples in search of a lost idol.

Riverfront has all the jazz and voodoo you could ask for. Travel the swamps of Louisiana with Tiana and Naveen on The Princess and the Frog Boat Adventure. Encounter a voodoo witch and her cunning spirits in a reimagined take on the Disney classic Haunted Mansion.

Look for more updates on the park and its attractions, and expect the park to open at some point in 2017.

Re: Disneyland USA - Marceline, MO - King Arthur's Castle - 9/5/16
« Reply #2 on: September 05, 2016, 09:29 AM »

It’s Labor Day, so I decided to post a quick shot of King Arthur’s Castle, the focal center of Disneyland USA.

After dark, circle around Elias Square and watch the spires illuminate under the nightly fireworks. Camelot is the setting of many classic tales, and many more memories will be made in the shadow of King Arthur’s Castle. The first Disney castle not themed to princesses, King Arthur’s Castle reminds us anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it.

In 1906, a small town family moved from Chicago to Marceline, Missouri. With them, a 4-year-old Walt Disney. 49 years later, that boy opened a miracle amusement park named Disneyland. Many thought it would fail, he knew better. Today, the ingenuity of Walt continues to the newest Disney park, Disneyland USA

A Disney castle themed to King Arthur is a wonderful idea, so much can be done with the theme. Come to think of it, Disney's "The Sword in the Stone" was one of my favorites as a kid. :)

Disneyland USA - Marceline, MO - Tomorrowland Presentation - 9/17/16
« Reply #6 on: September 17, 2016, 11:08 PM »

Over the coming weeks, Walt Disney Imagineering will be hosting Imagineer presentations with the lead designers of the highly-anticipated Disneyland USA. These events will be held at the newly constructed Mickey Mouse Theatre Hall. This multi-use complex was the first complete building of the Disneyland USA Resort and is now surrounded by the beginnings of Disney Village, the resort’s shopping and dining complex.

Inside, the four lead Imagineers of Disneyland USA assembled onstage to release details of Tomorrowland’s highlight attractions.

“The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a large part of modern pop culture, so it was only natural for us to incorporate these heroes into our park. The story of Iron Man Experience is Tony Stark has invited you to the latest Stark Expo and is exhibiting Tomorrowland’s new arc reactors. During your tour, Hydra attacks and you must help Iron Man defend the arc reactors in his newly christened Iron Wing.” –David Bradsome

“Continuing with the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy really gave us the opportunity to bring something a little different to Disneyland USA and Tomorrowland. Guests have been recruited by the Nova Corps to accompany the Guardians on their next adventure. But first, Rocket wants to test the newbies out. He loads everyone into a modified Nova ship and blasts them off into the vast cosmos. The whole experience is similar to Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster at our sister parks in that the whole ride is set to music.” –Dan Hart

“The world of Tron is perfect for us Imagineers as so little is known about the Grid. It allows for more liberties in story-telling than other franchises, and we really took this opportunity to create a truly amazing and encompassing attraction.” –Larry Dawson

“Our story is that Clu is rounding up Programs to compete in a new style of race for entertainment. When the guests are mistaken for Programs, Clu takes them in and forces two cars to race through the Grid in a thrilling high-speed finale.” –Tim Axiom

“By and large, Tomorrowland has reached new heights in the level of storytelling. While these are just a few of the experiences available in Tomorrowland, we hope it gives you a good idea of what can come to be expected.” –Larry Dawson

The next presentation will feature a sneak-peek of Riverfront, a New Orleans inspired land featuring new and classic stories.

« Reply #8 on: October 06, 2016, 02:47 PM »

Last night was the second Imagineer presentation at Mickey Mouse Theatre Hall in Disney Village. The details of the New Orleans themed “Riverfront” area of Disneyland USA were revealed, including what can be expected from this reimagined land.

As with the Tomorrowland presentation, stories of the attractions were unveiled by the Imagineers behind them.

“The Haunted Mansion is a Disney classic, guests have been entertained by the 999 happy haunts for half a century now. We wanted to bring our own spin to this tale, and for the first time since the original in California, the story is set in the swamps of Louisiana.” –Dan Hart

“Our story is set in a spook filled manor at the end of a dark New Orleans street. The only living resident of the house is a witch-doctor, who is obsessed with summoning one more spirit, to make an even 1,000. When you witness her ceremony, she decides to bring you into the world of ghosts and you experience all the wacky and spooktacular events we all know and love. With a slight voodoo twist though, of course.” –Larry Dawson

“The Princess and the Frog is a story that many know from classic fairytales, and a few years ago was retold by the brilliant animators at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Our guests now have the opportunity to board a boat in the bayou and travel to Mama Odie’s for a party with Tiana and Naveen. Along the way, though, Doctor Facilier finds you and invites you to join the “Shadow World”. There will be some surprises throughout the attraction, and it will be a huge draw for everyone.” –Tim Axiom

“As many of us know, New Orleans is a city of many facets, including street atmosphere. We wanted to bring the South to the Midwest, so the streets of Riverfront will be filled with an assortment of entertainers. You will encounter magicians, jazz bands, riverboat captains, and even some gravediggers. You will never feel like you are in a theme park.” –David Bradsome

“Our hope is that Riverfront will be reminiscent enough of New Orleans Square in California, but will still feel unique enough to have surprises for seasoned Disney-goers. Our next presentation will bring the Indian jungles to Missouri as we peel back the curtain on Adventureland.” –Dan Hart.

Great News! I feel comfortable enough with what I've done on the park to show a short, 7 minute preview of Disneyland USA. Please keep in mind the project is in no way close to being complete, but it has been awhile since I released new footage of the park. If you would like to receive a link to this short video, please message me.

Re: Disneyland USA - Marceline, MO - Adventureland Update - 11/20/16
« Reply #13 on: November 20, 2016, 03:23 PM »

November is here and that means cold weather in the Midwest United States! The forecasted low in Marceline this Thanksgiving week is 29°F, and snow is expected by the first week of December. This means construction crews at Disneyland USA are prepping the site to endure the long winter. In the meantime, Adventureland construction is progressing with the train station nearing completion.

Also, wood and steel has been delivered to the work site. These supports will be used to construct the fictional North Indian village of Saahasik, but most likely not until after the winter is mostly over with.

In preparation of building the village and attractions, crews have begun installing plumbing and electric wiring.

This is just a small update, but with a winter coming up that will surely cause slow progress, these will become common through February. A large update can be expected around mid-December on the construction of Discovery Isle, which is nearly complete.

Re: Disneyland USA - Marceline, MO - Resort Announcement - 11/27/16
« Reply #14 on: November 27, 2016, 10:13 PM »

The latest edition of the Linn County Leader is set to be released tomorrow, but we have an early glimpse, and it’s a big headline.

Over the next couple years Disney will build a massive resort complex, complete with two theme parks, two hotels, a shopping and dining center, and a Broadway-style theater by the end of 2018. When I spoke to Mr. Bob Iger after the event he had this to say.

“It should be pretty amazing. The industry has come so far since we last did this in the US, in 2001. Modern innovations and technology will create some amazing experiences for guests when they visit, and will hopefully encourage return trips in the future. We really see Marceline as the epicenter of Disney parks in the US over the next few years.”

This will be Disney’s largest single-site construction project since the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. The two on-site hotels are expected to open with Disneyland USA in 2017, along with Disney Village. When asked if we can expect announcements about the hotels anytime soon Mr. Iger responded with “Before the end of 2016, you will have themes.”

Some Imagineers attended the media event and told reporters they had many ideas for a second park in Missouri. “It’s just a matter of choosing and designing,” Imagineering veteran and president Bob Weis said.

Happy December from Marceline! Crews have been hard at work over recent weeks to make up for expected lost time this winter. In the past few days Discovery Isle has been completed, and being one of the most unique lands at Disneyland USA, I figured I share a few photos.

Discovery Isle is a Jules Verne inspired land nestled between Riverfront and Spaceport. It is here that Verne’s stories come to life for guests to experience.

Mysterious Rafting Co. is a white-water rapids ride created by Cyrus Smith, from The Mysterious Island. Rafters will board at a rotating platform at the top of the island and disembark at the bottom of the river. Some surprises may be found along the way.

Discovery Isle is full of mythical creatures and animals, some of which may be encountered throughout the journey.

Inside the caves of Discovery Isle guests can board a minetrain and join Professor Otto Lidenbrock through subterranean caverns on Geyser Mountain. A sinking island though causes flooded tunnels, forcing a quick escape.

Finally, join Phileas Fogg on a new flying contraption, and circumnavigate the world on Soarin’ Around the World in Eighty Days.

Discovery Isle is expected to be one of the most memorable parts of Disneyland USA when it opens in 2017. As a side note, the park’s railroad tracks have finished being laid, and rockwork is beginning to be installed in the first weeks of December.

Disneyland USA and Walt Disney Imagineering is proud to announce an additional land coming to Disneyland USA sometime in 2017. Modeled after an idea of Walt Disney’s for the original Disneyland in California, Edison Square will become the park’s eighth themed area. A city in the 1900s that has just begun using electricity, Edison Square is home to the Edison Hotel, the first hotel in America to use electrically powered elevators. The hotel managers have decided to install a Tesla coil on the roof, but a lightning storm moves in, just as you are checking into…

Edison Square will also be home to an updated version of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, which originally debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York. Just remember, there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow waiting at the end of every day!

In a small update from inside the park, FastPass+ stalls have begun being installed inside Disneyland USA. This will be the first park designed with this experience in mind, and only the second resort to feature the system. Currently, the only locations that are completed are in Fantasyland and Main Street America, with others planned for Tomorrowland, Riverfront, and Starport. The FastPass+ system will utilize the popular MagicBands that will allow guests to book FastPass times, make restaurant reservations, and pay for purchases, either using these stalls or the My Disney Experience app.

Re: Disneyland USA - Marceline, MO - Resort Hotel Details - 1/4/17
« Reply #22 on: January 04, 2017, 06:05 PM »

Over New Year’s weekend, Disney quietly announced the details of the two on-site hotels coming to the Marceline Disney Resort in 2017 and 2018. The first is due to open with Disneyland USA later this year, and the second will open with a planned second park, next year.

The first resort is Disney’s Neoteric Resort and Spa. Much in the vain of the Grand Floridian and Grand Californian resorts, the Neoteric will feature upscale amenities meant to cater to teenagers and adults in a modern and sleek setting. That doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty for children to do, though. A technologically advanced child care center will take lead from the Oceaneer Club on many Disney Cruise ships, with interactive play areas and character meet-and-greets. Also, when the second park of the Marceline Disney Resort opens in 2018, the Neoteric Resort and Spa will feature direct access to the park, utilizing a private entrance specifically for Neoteric guests.

Then, in 2018, Disney’s Patriot’s Lake Resort and Villas will open. Themed to colonial and early America, this accommodation will feature a main resort building along with individual villas, designed to cater to large families. Set in the woods of northern Missouri, Patriot’s Lake will include campsites as well, where families can bring an RV or camper to stay in. With outdoor activities and historical storytelling, Patriot’s Lake will be a fun and educational experience for everyone.

2017 will be an exciting time in Marceline, Missouri, as a new theme park, shopping and dining complex, and hotel resort open later this year. Crews are hard at work constructing the new experiences, however, due to snow and icy conditions, reporters and cameras are not being allowed on-site until the middle of January. Stay tuned for more updates beginning then.

It is beginning to warm up here in Marceline, and construction of Disneyland USA is picking up steam. Some attractions are nearing completion and much of the park’s walkways are complete. After asking some crew members, many are confident in a Spring 2017 soft-opening which would include select lands and attractions.

This first photo is of The Princess and the Frog taken from the patio of Atencio’s, a Southern cuisine restaurant, named after influential animator and lyricist Xavier Atencio, which will overlook this bayou scene.

This second photo is from inside Tron Power Run, which will follow in the footsteps of Test Track, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Radiator Springs Racers, and offer a high-speed thrill ride through the Grid.

Construction crews are hard at work building a fun and exciting experience for all our future guests. Work has begun on constructing Starport, or Star Wars Land as it has come to be known as, and the attractions of Adventureland have begun to go vertical, so it is a very exciting time here at Disneyland USA.

As a special preview and "appetizer" if you will for what is to come from Disneyland USA, the Imagineers have released this POV of "The Princess and the Frog Bayou Boating" from the Riverfront section of the park. Take in the sights and sounds on this musical journey.

Tiana and Naveen have invited you to a party, but Doctor Facilier finds you first. Louis and Ray help lead you to Mama Odie, who turns you back to human. After this, your next stop is New Orleans and an amazing party.

I was able to see it, and I think the ride layout and sound track was nicely done! My suggestion would be to add some overhanging trees and other foliage in the bayou scenes, but I'm sure that you're working on that already. It's exciting to see that you've added a Princess and the Frog attraction to your park, how nice if Disney would do the same!  :)

  • Coasters are great but dark rides are fun too.

I will try to fix the soundtrack issues on the Princess and the Frog POV video sometime in the next few days. I have been swamped lately and have done very little work on DLUSA since my last post. Elizabeth, I will take your advice on adding more overhanging trees, I have been looking for ways to improve the bayou scenes.
