Looks really good! I haven't said much on here, but I have been kind of silently watching the project, it just gets better and better with each passing day!

Quite a few days now!

Lol, I can't believe you still put up with Photobucket. Might I suggest imgr? It's much nicer (and faster). As for the picture itself, that custom flat is looking nice. Is that your own design?

Thanks for the tip! I'm using imgr now! The Red Baron plane ride is by the-dork. Link;

Wow, how did I miss this?! This is incredible, Citytrader. It all looks very authentic.

Thank you!

Still plugging away at this monster!

Playing around with integrating billboard and three dimensional bits;

How does it look?

Fantastic use of billboards ;)

Also good to see 1) that I didn't miss much in my absence, and 2) that you're still working on this :D

Kind of like how this one turned out!

Emilio's Italian Bistro;

The bistro did turn out well.

I'm not recognizing that awning on the snack shop though...  is there a shop logo on it somewhere hidden behind the billboard?  I just don't recognize the red and white stripes...

Re: Coney Island 1950!
« Reply #66 on: April 22, 2018, 03:57 AM »
That is the new awning from the Studios pack. Only the front stripe is recolorable. It gives a little three dimension quality to the billboard storefront.

Don't look behind the facade!

The awnings stick out! I will also replace the scaffolding with something a little simpler.

Added some more detail;

Looks wonderful, Rich!

Thank you Derek!

The classic profile of a classic coaster;

Not a perfect bolt by bolt recreation, but it hits the height and width marks, and has a nice smooth ride start to finish!

It's Thunderbolt!  Are you going to make the house under the track?  :D

Would that be the Cyclone? :whistling:

Nope!

It's Thunderbolt!  Are you going to make the house under the track?  :D

And a lovely little kewpie doll to the winner!

And, yes, the Kensington Hotel is already built!

Sightline from the hotel back toward the Bowery;

Looking down from the 85 foot drop;

Found out something interesting in my research on the coaster. John Miller deliberately made the lift hill very high and prominent so it would be the tallest thing at Coney island!

Oh good. Because it didn't look anything like the Cyclone. :P

Seriously, the Cyclone's the only coaster I know from Coney Island.

Seriously, the Cyclone's the only coaster I know from Coney Island.

In the 1950's, there were the big three, the Thunderbolt, the Tornado Bobs, and the Cyclone. The Flying Bobs from the 1939 New York World's Fair were also moved to Coney, but as we don't have Bobsleds yet, I'll just be looking at the others.

Here's the Thunderbolt in all it's glory;

And sadly, what she looked like at the end;

The coaster was featured in the movie "Annie Hall" as Woody Allen's character grew up in the hotel under the coaster.

The facade of Thunderbolt is shaping up;

Not in love with the sign, but it does the job! At night;

Lots more lights will be added!

Yup, very good sign!  Those things will never be quite as you want them to be due to the limited range of sizes for the key parts, but they still look quite good and you have to look close to spot the imperfections.  So don't sweat it ;)

Nope. Just thought I would lights!

Just a few filler buildings here and there on the bench;

Madison Hardware;

Don't forget to pick up your salt water taffy;

Katz' Amusements on Surf Avenue;

Note the rolling doors and Derek's skee ball games;

The Whip that stood on the corner of the Bowery and 15th;

My version;

Thanks guys! Here's coaster number two;

Here's my attempt at the Tornado Bobs. I smoothed out those hairpin curves, and laid out some temporary scenery just to get a feel for where things will line up;

I am about 60 feet short of the original, but the heights on all the turnarounds are accurate. It's not great, but not too bad either.

The Tunnel of Laffs and the Haunted House on the Bowery;

Looks cool at night;

Thanks guys! I'm pretty proud of my Tunnel of Laffs. Not perfect, but looks pretty darn good.

Derek, the haunted house is just a facade. In fact, I stole it from my own Adventureland park. The interior is unfinished, and will likely remain that way. I'm already feeling a bit of lag, so I'm just focusing on the facades, for the most part. In fact, I deleted all the Wings and Strings cars (I had over 500 of them at an average of 400 pieces each!) I'll drop them back in when I'm taking final pictures and videos.

First, let me say I really love this project! I did a similar thing a year or so ago and was quite happy with how it turned out. Keep up the fantastic work!

I do have one question, though: are you going for an accurate recreation of the Tornado or just an approximation? I ask because the current version you have is quite different from the actual ride.
