I just copied this as is , but didn't copy the photos, sorry.

Free Update 1.8 coming soon!
Hi coaster friends!

We hope you're having a wonderful time, wherever in the world you might be!

We're happy to announce that we're preparing another update for you, which as per usual is a free update combined with a new special Pack! We're going to hold on to the Pack info a bit longer, but would love to share all the free stuff that is coming in update 1.8 soon!

(Please note that the recently announced Thememaker's Toolkit is not included in the 1.8 update, but in a future one this year instead!)

RESTAURANTS

The PlanCo chefs have been working hard to prepare the most mouth-watering menus for the brand new restaurants you can now place in your parks! Have your guests get together for a yummy daytime or evening meal to enjoy in one of the fine establishments you choose to build. Restaurants are built very similarly to hotels by creating a restaurant facility that guests enter, and increasing its capacity with additional expansions. You can of course dress it up to your liking or use one of the provided in-game blueprints. Once your guests have finished their meals, they will leave with a boost to their happiness, food, and drink rating - which will vary on what your restaurant offers and what your guests have bought. You can customise what your restaurants offer by choosing from the different in-game brands and creating a menu; the more items being served, the higher your running costs. You can increase the effectiveness of your restaurants by using perks to attract different guest demographics and increase their star rating.

You can also play around with restaurant capacity (very similar to how hotels work). Each box represents a group of 4 at a table, so if you place 20 boxes inside your restaurant, you have space for 80 guests to dine. Guests who have a meal at a restaurant will feel spoiled and luxurious, so do try them out for yourself!

NEW SCENERY

We're adding some extra vending machines, building on the ones that were released in previous update 1.7! You can now also expect to find Chief Beef, Hotdog Squad, Pizza Pen, Cosmic Cow ice cream, Mexcelente, Tiki Chiki, Monsieur Frites and Missy Good donuts. It's looking like a yummy update already...

OBJECT BROWSER IMPROVEMENTS

We've added more tags to better categorise and identify objects in the building menus for Planet Coaster. You can add your own tags to scenery and blueprints, or based on projects you're working on, so that you can more efficiently find your more commonly used pieces. We've also created a Favourites category, which is an easier way to find the items you use all the time! You can now use the search bar to search for these tags, which should hopefully help with the endless scrolling for that one wall piece or, my favourite, the Dragon Poo.

TRIGGER EVENTS FOR DOORS

All door animatronics have been changed in the game so that they have extra trigger options, and you can now open and close them as you please. This much-requested change allows you to perfectly time coaster doors with their coasters or tracked rides, right up until the last 100th of a second.

NEW FIREWORKS

A host of new firework shapes including letters and Planet Coaster iconography are ready to shoot into the skies, and will give your park that extra spark of excitement.

CUSTOMISE OPERATION STAFF

Another much-requested feature, you can now customise the staff colours of the ticket booth staff and the ride operators! Time to make those green and purple aliens!

COASTER IMPROVEMENTS

Lapping has been added to 38 coasters, which allows you to lap the train through the station multiple times! We've also improved the Operations Tab with a dropdown menu showing only the possible operations mode for a specific coaster: Standard, Lapping, and Block section.

EVEN MORE NEW ADDITIONS!

You thought that was it? Think again! We've also removed the blue glow around selected scenery items, making it easier to change their colours; we've added new audio effects to the camera effects introduced in update 1.7, and triggerable speakers now have the option to change their pitch by trigger, meaning you can bend or snap to that pitch by up to an octave.

We hope you're excited about this amazing free update, and we will be telling you even more about the additional Pack really soon. Please be sure to tune in TONIGHT at 7PM BST to watch Lead Artist Sam Denney and Gameplay Programmer Robert Chisholm talk about the 1.8 free update (and Sam's promised us to not drop any spoilers about the upcoming Pack...) over at www.youtube.com/planetcoaster/live

We hope to see you there!

Bo

No word on release date? Guess I will leave all this open space in Palisade Park untouched for now.
I think like I live like I work like I love.....voluminous and disjointed. Get used to it.

1000x this^^  And better sorting on the blueprints tab, too.  And doors that can be triggered for each car of the ghost train.  And all sorts of other stuff.  All for free.  I'm happy.

100% agree Fisherman, I have already built restaurants with seating etc etc in the building which IMO is better than the hotel situation they have added. I'd have liked something like waiters deliver food to tables. Like you link a table to a 'hub' and when ppl sit there they get served.

Very happy that you can now Lap coasters. Nice one Frontier!

Also, I am stoked you can now change ride operator uniforms. That rocks.

So long BLUE GLOW! Eat my shorts!

vending machines is good (expected but still good)

Open doors will be really good! I've been grumbling about that to myself a fair few times.

Custom labels **keels over** ...I will use the hell out of that!

Also, they are still working on it all so that's nice!
Always be yourself...unless you can be batman!

Agree, there's visually no difference to a toilet block when it comes to the guests using a Hotel or Restaurant. It's just another option that gives UI options and figures for pricing to make money from the guests.

I don't mind the restaurant thing.  I mean, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it.  Besides, I note some of the folks complaining don't even open their parks to peeps anyway due to FPS, so it really makes no practical difference to them anyway :D.

I actually think the hotel-type restaurant is a fairly elegant compromise to the problem of food courts / restaurants in general.  Frontier can't make fundamental changes to how peeps make decisions or how their metabolisms work, nor can they alter how peeps interact with existing food/drink shops and benches, without screwing up every park made in the game so far.  So what they've done instead is to add a new type of attraction that peeps can decide to patronize along with all the others in the park.  I don't really see any other way they could have done this.

The existing food/drink shops have always been intended to be fast food, to-go/carry-out snack bars.  This is part and parcel with how peeps are wired.  Trying to make big food courts and restaurants with these shops, although it looks cool, was never the intent and that's why they don't work well in the game.  Peeps can only have 1 goal at a time and their physical needs run at different rates, so they are incapable of deciding to eat, drink, and sit down simultaneously, and usually don't even satisfy 2 such needs in succession--they'll go on rides in between.

So, what Frontier seems to have done is to create a new attraction, the "restaurant", the desirability of which is probably based on a combination of the peep's current needs levels for food, drink, and energy.  This gives the peeps a single destination that fits in with the existing peep decision-making and metabolic systems, so Frontier didn't have to completely rewrite all that.

You can complain that making the restaurant as a TARDIS-box like a restroom, 1st aid, or hotel, is disappointing because you can't see the peeps using the fancy interiors you make.  But think about the colossal amount of AI code and new animations, both VERY time-consuming (thus expensive) to make, that would be required to make functional restaurant interiors.  Plus the CPU/GPU overhead that would entail.  That's just not going to happen.

I don't see the issue with this manner of building hotels and soon to be restaurants. All you have to do is have the one black door attached to a path that goes into the building you intend to build. Just add the modules down. They are still connected to the main entry and do not take up precious space at ground level.

as you can see, once the mods are added...you can build and dress a structure anyway you want and make it look really great. I have a very basic wall placed here for the explanation, but its basically open free building and designing as normal...with a functioning structure. Does not solve the problem everyone is seeming to have?

...All you have to do is have the one black door...

^+1

And you can hide the black door of the restaurant "TARDIS" behind a wall with a decorative door mounted on it, so you don't even need to see it, and peeps will walk through the decorative door (alas, without opening it) and thus through the purely decorative dining area you fill the interior space with.  Or you can make 2-story interiors, connected by path stairs, with the restaurant TARDIS on the bottom looking like an elevator and other types of shops upstairs to get peeps actually to walk up there.  Meanwhile, all the actual restaurant booth/table boxes are buried underground, or in the part of the building you've designated as the kitchen and scullery, or whatever, and isn't part of the interior.

This is, of course, a dodge that won't satisfy those who want to see peeps sitting at tables, ordering from menus, having food delivered and dirty dishes taken away, etc.  I urge those folks to consider for a moment only the pathfinding routines (among many other things) that would be required by both peeps and staff waiters to make this happen in the infinite number of arbitrary arrangements of tables that players can construct.  Peeps have a hard enough time just walking past a bin sitting on (as opposed to just off) a 4m path without getting stuck.  And in terms of gameplay, such functional restaurant interiors add exactly zero to the gameplay that isn't already provided by the TARDIS.  The gameplay effects are simply that the peeps spend some time and money in the restaurant and come out with needs fulfilled and happiness increased.  If this was all live-action animated, the bottom line would still be the same.
