Legoland - Southern California

Southern California

The Southern California exhibit recreates famous landmarks and areas throughout Southern California, including this fictional Mini Legoland amusement park and mini golf.

The entrance to Lego Miniland.

The "Friends" ferris wheel dominates the amusement area. Honestly, I think they could do something better with this part. The Southern California exhibit changes every few years and this is not one of their more impressive displays.

An RV park and race track in the background.

The harbor area of the exhibit is based on the Oceanside Harbor, one city to the north of Legoland's home town of Carlsbad.

I immediately recognized this string of shops and lighthouse as I visited the real spot many times when I lived in Oceanside.

Back side of the harbor shops.

Tiki Bar

A typical So. California beach and surf shop.

This looks like a coast guard patrol boat.

Boat Filling Station

The pier is loosely modeled after the actual Oceanside Pier.

A pair of whales in the harbor.

Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. (Been there many times.  ;))

This Legowood sign is a take off on the famous Hollywood sign as we move up to the Hollywood/L.A. section of the exhibit.

The famous Mann's Chinese Theatre.

The Hollywood Bowl. Accompanying this exhibit is an original musical "symphony" written by Danish composer Steen Gjerulff.

The Griffith Park Observatory in the Hollywood hills above Los Angeles.

I think the Briki Tiki restaurant is the most interesting structure in this area. And the last picture of the Griffith Park Observatory is the most realistic looking.

Still no real squirrels or birds though. :mad:up: I guess I'll have to settle for the big splotch of bird poop on the RV park road.
