Around The World -- Behind The Scenes
« on: April 07, 2019, 04:45 AM »

Hi everyone! Long time no see. I'm working on a compact dark ride called "Around The World", narrated by the world-famous natural historian Sir Dr. Redbug.
Here are some shots and a teaser to get this topic started..

I'm curious, is this going to be a park? Or a series of dioramas illustrating a story? Or something else? Either way, it looks exciting!

D'oh! I read that at the top of your thread and then got mesmerized by the scenes and forgot all about it. :n00b:

In the Arctic scene, I like how just a few white triangles in the distance is all it takes to establish ice-covered mountains and glaciers.

Hmm, the good Doctor seems to crash his balloon a lot.

Although Dr. Redbug has travelled from the farthest east to the wildest west, there's nothing like slowly descending above his cozy home town.

@shyguy: Thank you very much!
@wowmanrct: Thank you, I hope to finish it this weekend
@JB: According to Redbug, landing is nothing more but a "gentle crash"  ;)

I just love how you're using shapes in the background for mountains and clouds and stuff.  That is more realistic than trying to make things that look realistic.  You know what I mean.

Always a special touch on your work. I love that. The atmosphere is really dragging and I like how artificial you have designed your backdrops The crescent is absolutley great. Very simple in some way but the effect is massive.

Well done, very dark rid-y.  A little bit short, but I think that's because I was enjoying it and wanted it to continue.  My faves are either the penguins or the rooftops, maybe both.  I'd imagine you were able to make this fairly compact which means it would fit well into a [cough] entire park.  ;)

Oh, and most excellent narration!   :D

Very impressive! I like how the scenes come to life as we enter each diorama; the lights come up, the animals start moving, etc. Well done.

Short, but excellent nonetheless. Each scene was simple, yet elegantly designed and lit. And great narration!

Thank you @JPAlmight, for your kind words. As you'll see in the pics below, the ride is indeed very compact.
@JB Thank you very much! The animals are recent additions to the TMTK Workshop, so happy with them.
@ShyGuy: Short but sweet was what I was going for. So glad you liked it!
@cody Not sure what you're still waiting for - the video's online since last week! ;-)

I love seeing "how the sausage is made". :)  I especially liked seeing how you made only the rooftops and upper clock tower in the 'home town' scene. When we view the scene in the video (or screenshot) we tend to fill in the rest with our imagination.

This post also serves as a great tutorial on how powerful lighting can be...  Looking at this in daylight is like looking at a small fraction of what we saw in the POV.  Very clever work!

Wow, Berlin, this is a GREAT ride!  I love the narration :).  And the whole layout, as revealed above, is genius!  Very nicely done both artistically and technically!

Last response: Thank you JB, wowman, JP and Bullethead for your lovely responses. So glad you appreciated the simple layout. It's very effective for this type of ride (diorama). And I agree, JP — lighting is everything!
