Sincere thanks to Shyguy...
« on: May 20, 2023, 12:39 PM »
So sorry to hear that Shy's World will be closing on June 6th.  Somewhat understandable but still sad.  But I do want to sincerely thank Shyguy for the time, effort and expense of keeping this site open all these years.  It first was a refuge for many from the chaos of the old Atari forums, then it became THE site for the community for years.  It's been several years since Planet Coaster was supported by Frontier, and many players have wandered away from the game, which weakened the community as a whole.  Others still playing migrated to other forms of community contact besides a forum-based one.

Some of us older players don't use Discord or similar, so likely will hang around at the official Frontier Forums until they decide to do away with them in the future as well.

So a fond goodbye to Shyguy's World, have a lot of great memories and met a lot of great fellow players.  Thank you for that.  You'll be sorely missed...

Whoa - this is news to me. So sad...loved this site. Hope to see you all on the other side...or maybe in the official forums.
Peace.

Yeah, the writing was on the wall; what with the greatly reduced number of comments and projects here over the past couple of years. But still, I was hoping against hope that somehow the site would continue, in some form, indefinitely.

But nothing lasts forever... time marches on. People find other interests, other social and gaming platforms. I sort of had a feeling that the end was near at least six months ago. So, at least we got a few 'extra' months here. Is the site going to disappear completely? Or will everything go into locked archives?

Thanks, shyguy. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

Does anyone know if the CS Depot still be up after June 6th? It's loss would be devastating! I've only looked through maybe 10% of it, even after all these years.

Also wondering if the forums will still be available in archive format like the old RCT archive... still readable, just no new posts. There's a TON of priceless information on those forum pages and I've barely scratched the surface of it. I'm only now getting into creating CS (no time when I was younger) so I still have a lot to learn... and all the best info is HERE.

Pardon me while I go cry for a bit. :,^(

Being a member for 11 years (lurker for a bit more  ::)), SGW has been one of the best communities for theme park games and related content. I am deeply saddened we are closing our doors as I have had big plans for revivals of different projects that started here. This community has had a plethora of talented creators pass through and quite a few stuck around for a long time! Many of us grew up and are now working, but still have the passion for thrills and awesome parks/zoos/etc.

I have made a few friends and have had the privilege to keep in touch with creators who I have followed since I was a kid. I was lucky to become the Global Moderator after a short period of being just a moderator for the RCT boards here, which was also a quick period from when I started posting screenshots instead of begging for custom content (guilty). This community has had a lot of inspiring creations and my hope was and has been to be an inspiration to many and make sure everything was flowing smoothly in an encouraging environment.

Thank you all for being great members and inspirations. I am active on MANY Facebook groups that have the same projects. Also active on discord and love getting personal messages to talk theme parks (mostly Disney). To my friends, my projects will still be your playful competitors  ::). Thank you Shyguy for the awesome site and you had many contributions to the RCT3 community that are in use every time I load a park.

Wow this is truly the end of an era.

It's been a blast guys, I know a lot of us of splintered away to different communities or aged out, but I enjoyed my time here and with the RCT community back at the original forums. Its no joke that I grew up with this place.

shyguy, thank you for hosting us, It's been a journey!

Hey guys. First of all, thanks for the kind words. I had a great time running this forum, and actually feel quite honored that the wonderful RCT3 community chose my humble site to make its home for many years. The site had its ups and downs, and sometimes was a huge pain to run...but mostly it was a joy.

There are many reasons why I have decided to shut down the site. Server prices have gotten much more expensive, for one. But that is not the main reason. The forum software is very out of date and is not being updated. This leaves it vulnerable to malicious attacks, which have already hit the CS Depot. Also, as technology advances, these forums are slowly loosing their functionality and in time may not be compatible with the newer systems that servers are and will be using in the future. Important features are already becoming broken. The email notification system no longer works, which makes it impossible to register new members. That, and aside from a few dedicated members, nobody posts here anymore. ;) And my interests have moved away from theme park sims and running websites.

I've been tempted to close the site in the past, but just couldn't do it. But now, I feel the time has come.

And no need to panic about the CS Depot. It is not closing...yet. But I do plan on closing it when the account runs out in December. But there are rumblings on Discord of plans to host the files at another location. You can check the Discord channel for more info on this.

Wow, this is news to me too. This forum meant a lot to me as a kid who was obsessed with RCT3. Now I'm an adult who sometimes still manages to squeeze time to play Planet Coaster between a corporate job, a social life, and physical/mental fitness. Although I barely even have time for Planet Coaster anymore, I still like to hop on here, browse, post sometimes, and even play some Planet Coaster myself when I can.

So this is very sad news, and I definitely feel like a part of my childhood is going away :(

But, I am thankful for the time I've spent here in the community, and am very grateful for everyone, especially you shyguy, for creating this community and allowing everyone to build together.

We will all miss it here! As I'm sure the members who have drifted off do too.

Thank you shyguy

Wow! This is devastating news. Well, nothing last forever unfortunately. Thank you Shy Guy for hosting such an amazing site for us theme park sim enthusiast to escape the mundane of reality. Even though I wasn't a long time member here, it still was nice to have a site dedicated to theme park enthusiast (both real world and virtual). On a side note, will everything be archived for future viewing? It would be an absolute loss if all of the content on this site was lost to time. It's good to know that the cs depot won't be closing in the near future, (though that will also be a great loss once that disappears), hopefully all the custom content will find a new home. Thanks for everything.

Tentative plans are in the works to create a new home for the CS Depot files and possibly a place to view the old content of SGW (or even a working forum where people can continue to post). This is all up in the air right now, but is being serious considered and worked on by members at SGW Discord.

If necessary, I'd be willing to chip in money to make sure the forums ARE backed up before they go down next week. I know server time costs money and I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is. There's just so much data here about creating CS that I can't possibly get through in the next week and doesn't exist anywhere else anymore.

I am totally serious here. I can (and am very willing to) send however much is necessary via PayPal to ensure this priceless data isn't lost to the bit bucket. Feel free to reach out to me via email or PM.

This is really devastating news. I know I haven't been that much active on here like I used to, but I've been playing RCT3 since 2009, and I have collected many great CSO sets over the years and this was one of the best places to discuss RCT3 creations. And since the release of Planet Coaster in 2016, my experiences of playing have never been forgotten. I really hope there will be a brand new site to put all the CSOs, CTRs, CFRs, and even the CTs from the now-defunct RealTycoon3 site. This forum site will be missed....

Thank you all here for supporting my "Walk on the wild side" Thempark project. And thank you Shyguy for having this townsquare that I loved and I will check in on the discord channel.

Hope to see you all back there than  :)

The forum databases have all been backed up. Discussion on if/how they will be shared to the public is ongoing on the SGW Discord channel.

That's a relief, at least. Thank you for letting us know!

I don't use Discord. (tried it a while back... reminds me too much of IRC back in the day, which isn't my cup of tea anymore) Maybe I can have one of my sons check out what's going on there. Lacking that, would it be possible to get a general update on what the plans currently are?

Again, I'd be willing to put up money to ensure that the content stays available. (being backed up is nice and all, but unless it's accessible somewhere, it doesn't do much good to the public at large)

Thank you SO MUCH for keeping this place running as long as you have. We all owe you a debt of gratitude that I don't think we could ever pay. :^)

Shyguy, thank you so much for doing a lot to the theme park simulator community over the years. As someone who's been followed the adventure for years, I'm happy that we got some talented folks creating theme parks, and sometimes telling stories with them in the process. I wish you the best for the future and I'll truly miss the site. Cheers!

Now that the new site is up and running, I wanted to take a moment to respond here:

Just wanted to say thanks so much for keeping this community and site alive for decades, shyguy! I was never a seriously active person back in the days of RCT3 on here, I was very much active on vPyro but would always check in on this site to see all the crazy cool coaster and ride things you all did that us pyro people could never somehow do, haha. It's a real shame to see one of the last original RCT3 forums close down, I miss the days of RCT3, vPyro, active SGW, and so much more! Nevertheless, it has been an incredible journey and we all look back with nothing but smiles and fond memories. Thanks so much for everything you've done shyguy, this site will be extremely missed.

For those who are asking in regards to backups, files, CS depot, etc - I've created a new community that will host all of the downloads that are on SGW and will go through adding all important RCT3 Tutorials/Articles so nothing gets lost. Shyguy has given me a full backup of this site along with all the downloads (thanks so much for this) so we will always have the topics and posts. In the future, I may re-add all of the topics and posts on this site onto the new one (need to figure this out) at least as an archive or something. Regardless, shyguy has given me a backup so we will always have all the topics and posts posted on here.

I recommend that everyone who is still involved in this community to join the ShyGuy's World Discord server to continue talking to other members: https://discord.gg/st9Q3aF

I also recommend joining the new community, ParkCrafters to continue sharing and discussing your creations:
Community Website: https://parkcrafters.com/
Community Discord Server: https://discord.gg/FuYenjqNqT

It's been a blast everyone, thanks for making so many incredible memories in this community. I hope to see you all on the Discord servers and on ParkCrafters!
there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really

As everyone else has already said, an enormous shoutout to shyguy for keeping this site alive for so long!

Hopefully we'll see each other at some of these new sites!
