Had the luck to get on an AP preview of this ride a few days ago. Really a good attraction coaster. Best way to describe it is the new modern better technology Space Mountain on steroids. It was fun and fast.

For those that don't know. Its an indoor launch coaster with rotating (not spinning) cars. So, there are many screen with projections telling the story (basically chasing a bad guy through time travel honey comb like portal jumps....like in the movie) and the cars rotate at times to better allow you to see the projections. The best part about the rotating cars is that the track is mostly made of sharp banked helix turns and the cars rotate so that you almost get a drifting around the turns feel and it also helps increase the G forces going around those bends. Other than the projections and some set pieces its all in the dark with stars projected everywhere.

There is also the launch....backwards up the lift. No drops, at least that I could tell. I highly recommend it.

Planet Coaster Community Board / Console pre-release anger
« on: November 09, 2020, 09:04 AM »
Not sure if anyone is seeing what's going on in the official forums at Frontier, but it looks like some pre-release game play has revealed some major limitations on building (meaning how many pieces/rides/etc.) you can have in a park.

There is actually a counter that keeps track, shows a percentage...and when you hit 100% you are prevented from adding anything else, changing terrain, adding staff, etc. I never had any intention for this version of the game, but it sounds like the pitch forks are coming out that Frontier hid this known fact before release.

Sounds like many are not happy they they pre-bought the game not knowing about this limitation.

When you see what the limits are...its pretty low...at least IMO.

Fun & Games / Wonders of Life
« on: May 22, 2020, 02:27 PM »
Just wanted to share this as its been a big part of my life the past few weeks.
we planted milkweed to attract monarch butterflies. had them about a year or so now. we get eggs and caterpillars many time throughout the year and they chew the plants down to nothing, and then wasps come along and kill and eat the caterpillars. We have seen only one make it to a butterfly that we knew of.

So a couple weeks ago, many small baby caterpillars showed up on the plants again, but the plants were struggling. never grew back well from that wave of little buggers. So, we purchased 5 good healthy plants with lot of leaves. I build a 2x4 foot screen enclosure for them and we hand picked and moved 36 caterpillars into the safe habitat.

we watched them grow over that past two weeks and all leave the plants and hang from the top screening to form into the the chrysalis. Now about 8 days later they are starting to emerge as beautiful butterflies. So far 16 have transformed and been released.

I was so lucking to be able to set up some lighting and record one of them changing through both stages. Hope can get some peace and enjoyment from watching these wonders of life.

Theme Park News & Discussion / Rise of the Resistance....
« on: December 06, 2019, 07:25 PM »
I will try not to give away too many spoilers, but had the chance to experience this attraction today (one day after opening) and all I can say id draw dropping awesome. Even if you are not a Star Wars fan the effects and story line of this ride are incredible.

Disney has a new way to queue guests for the (what I'm calling Mega E-Ticket) rides. Once you scan your ticket at the gate, you go to the Disney app and sign in for a boarding group for the ride. So its like a super Fast Pass type feature. For example I had boarding group 58. the app (and signs in the park) show status of boarding, but you can go enjoy the rest of the park...or even leave and go to another park (like we did), until your boarding group approaches. Once it is called you have about 2 hours to make it to the queue to sign in and get in line.

I think it worked very well...except this early in the opening schedule, the park was opening at 5am and all the boarding slots were filled for the day bay about 8am...so right now get there super early or don't expect to ride.

I expect that this will subside as time goes on and crowds level out a bit, but I'm told this will be in place at least through the holiday season in the park.

So once you check in...you go to the queue and wait with the others in the queue like normal, but it moves fast and was not filled to capacity. The outdoors extended queue was totally empty. when we got in line.

The cast working the ride is awesome and they were trained very well. Its totally like being in a SW movie with live characters all around you. Yelling commands, hurrying you along, scaring you with threats of interrogation...simply awesome. Their involvement and commitment to the characters made the ride experience even way better.

Now quick high level recap of the ride...stop reading if you want no idea what to expect.

I basically will break the ride into like 5-6 segments that are clear different experiences you have during the ride. Each wonderful on its own.

Part 1: The Queue. took about 15 to 20 minutes. You walk through a underground resistance bunker. lots of concrete and storage props of weapons, uniforms, etc.

Part 2: Pre-show 1 about 5 mins - at the end of the queue you enter a room where BB-8 (live) and Rey (a super realistic hologram) provide some instructions on what will be happening...basically you are recruited to help a general and will be taking a shuttle to help the troops

Part 3: Shuttle ride. About 5-7 minutes. Doors open and you find yourself back outside being yelled at to hurry to the shuttle as you need to leave quickly. Life size shuttle opens up and you enter a fully themed ship where you stand and hold onto rails. Star Wars creature pilot and instruct you some more. via video screen, special effects and actual movement, you fly into space, but get caught in a tracker beam of a Star Destroyer. Video screen get taken over and you are told that your ship will be boarded. Through the windows you see that you are entering the destroyer docking bay.

Part 4: Docking bay pre-show2. about 2-3 mins. Shuttle doors open and First Order folks start yelling and calling you spies and rebel scum. You exit into a full size hanger bay that is unbelievable and jaw dropping. Like 50 Storm Troopers guard you and you see the battle action through the large open hanger bay doorway. They move you fairly quickly through here into a hallway.

Part 5: the hall queue, about 5-10 mins depending on crowd flow. So now you are in another queue, fully themed of the interior of the ship. not that long of a wait. at the end you tell the FO guys how many people in your party.

Part 6: Interrogation prep - about 2-5 minutes. So they line you up and do some pretty good acting making you feel like you are about to be interrogated. Grumbling under their breath that they will get the location of the resistance base from you no matter what...and staring you down. Very military/prison feel to this part. A few more troopers stand guard.

Part 7: The interrogation cell. about 3-4 minutes. You get led into a cell and Kylo and others warn and threaten you from above the cell. You get a surprise breakout rescue from other fighters and are hurried into the prisoner transport vehicles that will take you to some escape pods.

Part 8: The escape. this is finally the main part of the ride...about 5-7 minutes long. trackless cars take you all through the ship and on different levels as you from battle scene to battle scene as Kylo chases you through the ship. Some really awesome practical effects, video, effects, Special effects and projections are used along with some of the best robotic figures you will ever see.

So as I said earlier...not just a ride a full immersion experience. you have to go do it in person.

Planet Zoo / Brookfield Zoo
« on: November 06, 2019, 07:17 AM »
Well - I will be trying to build a recreate of a real zoo outside the Chicago area called Brookfield Zoo...but I will be using a future master plan version of the zoo that I will be working from as the inspiration for this zoo. I'm sure I may have to take some liberties in some areas, but will try to follow the master plan as close as I can. I really hope that this turns out to be a good thread and that you will enjoy it.

Great thing is the plan has a sky lift ride in it and what a great surprise the they included a gondola type ride in the game release - - make me so excited.

Anyway...here is a shot of what the plan looks like.

My other tread on Zoo Design goes into great detail on the evolution of this master plan if you want to see those details about this zoo.

I'm about ready to fire up my new desktop PC build, but I want to back up all my PlanCo files, and I can't find them anywhere. All I have is all my user files for video and billboards.

Where are:
Park files
Downloaded TMTK files
Downloaded Blueprint files

I'm about to lose my mind looking for these.

So, now that I'm a AP at WDW...I do plan on going more often and plan on trying some different places to eat as I visit more. I will do my best to try and review such establishments in this thread. Hopefully they can help others learn something about the park's eateries before they go.

Please contribute you own reviews as well.

This is a great article from two perspectives. 1. its great info about the development of this new park. 2. It gives great insight to the details of park planning that may help players of the coaster games we share on this forum. I especially think BH will like the emergency access segment. I found this really interesting.

Planet Coaster Community Board / PlanCo out of sync with Steam
« on: December 29, 2018, 10:54 AM »
What is the correct choice to make when you get a warning (when opening the game) that the file are not in sync. I didn't capture the page, but it was something like...download files from your computer to Steam, or download file from Steam. I think I made the wrong choice and lost several days of work...even on my backup parks. I believe I chose the Steam files. Damn. Can someone explain what this is what the difference is?

Planet Coaster Community Board / Free Update 1.8 annouced
« on: September 26, 2018, 08:47 AM »
I just copied this as is , but didn't copy the photos, sorry.

Free Update 1.8 coming soon!
Hi coaster friends!

We hope you're having a wonderful time, wherever in the world you might be!

We're happy to announce that we're preparing another update for you, which as per usual is a free update combined with a new special Pack! We're going to hold on to the Pack info a bit longer, but would love to share all the free stuff that is coming in update 1.8 soon!

(Please note that the recently announced Thememaker's Toolkit is not included in the 1.8 update, but in a future one this year instead!)

RESTAURANTS

The PlanCo chefs have been working hard to prepare the most mouth-watering menus for the brand new restaurants you can now place in your parks! Have your guests get together for a yummy daytime or evening meal to enjoy in one of the fine establishments you choose to build. Restaurants are built very similarly to hotels by creating a restaurant facility that guests enter, and increasing its capacity with additional expansions. You can of course dress it up to your liking or use one of the provided in-game blueprints. Once your guests have finished their meals, they will leave with a boost to their happiness, food, and drink rating - which will vary on what your restaurant offers and what your guests have bought. You can customise what your restaurants offer by choosing from the different in-game brands and creating a menu; the more items being served, the higher your running costs. You can increase the effectiveness of your restaurants by using perks to attract different guest demographics and increase their star rating.

You can also play around with restaurant capacity (very similar to how hotels work). Each box represents a group of 4 at a table, so if you place 20 boxes inside your restaurant, you have space for 80 guests to dine. Guests who have a meal at a restaurant will feel spoiled and luxurious, so do try them out for yourself!

NEW SCENERY

We're adding some extra vending machines, building on the ones that were released in previous update 1.7! You can now also expect to find Chief Beef, Hotdog Squad, Pizza Pen, Cosmic Cow ice cream, Mexcelente, Tiki Chiki, Monsieur Frites and Missy Good donuts. It's looking like a yummy update already...

OBJECT BROWSER IMPROVEMENTS

We've added more tags to better categorise and identify objects in the building menus for Planet Coaster. You can add your own tags to scenery and blueprints, or based on projects you're working on, so that you can more efficiently find your more commonly used pieces. We've also created a Favourites category, which is an easier way to find the items you use all the time! You can now use the search bar to search for these tags, which should hopefully help with the endless scrolling for that one wall piece or, my favourite, the Dragon Poo.

TRIGGER EVENTS FOR DOORS

All door animatronics have been changed in the game so that they have extra trigger options, and you can now open and close them as you please. This much-requested change allows you to perfectly time coaster doors with their coasters or tracked rides, right up until the last 100th of a second.

NEW FIREWORKS

A host of new firework shapes including letters and Planet Coaster iconography are ready to shoot into the skies, and will give your park that extra spark of excitement.

CUSTOMISE OPERATION STAFF

Another much-requested feature, you can now customise the staff colours of the ticket booth staff and the ride operators! Time to make those green and purple aliens!

COASTER IMPROVEMENTS

Lapping has been added to 38 coasters, which allows you to lap the train through the station multiple times! We've also improved the Operations Tab with a dropdown menu showing only the possible operations mode for a specific coaster: Standard, Lapping, and Block section.

EVEN MORE NEW ADDITIONS!

You thought that was it? Think again! We've also removed the blue glow around selected scenery items, making it easier to change their colours; we've added new audio effects to the camera effects introduced in update 1.7, and triggerable speakers now have the option to change their pitch by trigger, meaning you can bend or snap to that pitch by up to an octave.

We hope you're excited about this amazing free update, and we will be telling you even more about the additional Pack really soon. Please be sure to tune in TONIGHT at 7PM BST to watch Lead Artist Sam Denney and Gameplay Programmer Robert Chisholm talk about the 1.8 free update (and Sam's promised us to not drop any spoilers about the upcoming Pack...) over at www.youtube.com/planetcoaster/live

We hope to see you there!

Bo

Planet Coaster Parks / Renee Feu Adventure Park - Egypt
« on: August 23, 2018, 07:38 AM »
Well - here is my next adventure in PlanCo.
I'm going to try and use a park I created in RCT3 as the starting point. While I will switch a few things out...I will try and follow that old park layout as much as I can.

I'm also trying to decide if I will just some construction pictures, but mostly completed work (like I did with my Star Wars park), or if I will show work as is progresses...maybe even do some build videos???

Anyway - here is how my mind works.
I first draw a real rough draft of the whole park layout to start working with.

Here is it color coded - lands are inspired from the Indiana Jones movie locals

Purple - entry plaza and Port of Call. A central market place with shops and places to eat and get supplies for your adventure to exotic locals around the world. There may also be a few small flat rides here and a train station and boat station.

Light Green - Jungles of the World. Lush jungles with mystery and danger lurking around every bend. There will be a coaster and raft ride here as well a flat or two.

Light Purple - Venice. a quaint village area with waterways and shops  - not sure what this will be yet, but maybe a shopping district with a flat ride.

Pink - Area 51. The government has alien and mystery stuff here that you never know can happen if released- dark ride and maybe a coaster

Gray - Temple of Doom - Race through the caverns on a wild mine train coaster. This area may also have mystery caverns deep below.

Green - Germany. Castles and villages are the setting for Indy's latest adventures

Dark blue/green - not for sure yet, but maybe Hong Kong where there will be a night club and a car ride

yellow - Egypt - Beware of the mystery of the pyramids. Desert setting with a tracked ride and a coaster or two.

Tan - Africa. an extension with Egypt and a place where jungles and animals lurk in the shadows. There will be a water ride and other flats in this area.

The dark blue lines are general placement of the rivers that will hols a boat transport ride. black blocks are planned stations
The dark purple line is a train transport that also has black station locations.

Not sure if there is a thread out there yet for stuff like this. I have seen others say they were in a funk and couldn't come up with things to build or create. Here is a link of some real life parks being built with some great concept art that can be used to spark some imagination for building in the game.
