Dear Atlantic City Historical Foundation,
It has come to me that there is no information about a old amusement park pier on the boardwalk. I understand, it used to exist but now sits empty and I have heard stories from my parents and other folks about the rides that graced the pier. Such as the Meteor roller coaster, or the Mine Ride, or something about a water ride. I am doing a report for a website about the history, I have asked many other organizations and you are probably the last hope. I would like to know anything about the beginnings, rides, pictures, reports and events associated with the pier. Thanks in advance!

Reply: Hello Kyle,
Thanks for the questions! And I must say you are lucky, just recently a local resident who has documented the pier, has a gold mine of information and pictures from the start and finish. He decided to give us copies of pictures and footage. Please click on the attachment below. Hope you enjoy, and good luck with the project!

The beginnings of something special

Fall 1962

Atlantic City has been a pretty decent east coast city, filled with the usual entertainment, restaurants, night life. But recently the southern tip of the island has experienced a stimulus of growth. What used to just be an 45 year old life guard station and house was bought out by an entrepreneur named Will Wright. He is known as the owner of a steel company and financial bank, him and a real estate Tycoon named David Cook teamed up and bought acres of land. For the first few years, the boardwalk that was there was extended, by 1961 a hotel was built called the Ocean Inn, featuring twin buildings with ocean view, and side views. Soon after that the life guard building was turned into a museum and renovated. The beaches were beginning to be used, but despite the new situation, there was still something needed to bring fun and fascination to the beach.  This year I stopped by to take a look around at all the fuss and noise.

^ The skyline view so far, a pretty chilly day, and still a few people walking around.

^ The Ocean Inn neighbors the life guard outpost.

^ The life guard house, actually used to have spare rooms for life guards to sleep, and rarely fishermen as well.

^ I snuck up for a view for my self in the tower.

^ Wait what's this? A staging area for construction equipment.

^ Footers in the sand. Something is going on, there is a rumor about some type of entertainment coming down here. Could this be it? Well have to wait and see!

Creators Note:

Hello everyone! Well fisherman did me in, hell he reeled me in and now here I am with a ocean related project! Now mind you, I was planning on doing this but was waiting until Planet Coaster added a bit more to make it worth starting, and with the no Collison and other additions it is time. In this game you really can be very detailed, and create quite a bit. But with that, it takes a long time to build your ideas! It took me 3 days (hour or 2 each) to finish the life guard building. Another 2 for everything else, which means updates will be when I finish my ideas. Now in the past few years, I am a busy man, in a band and working a lot. I don't have as much time compared to when I was creating parks years ago, but that is not a problem. NOW, those who have seen my parks before should know what this project is, and its also ironic and interesting to say that its the 10th year anniversary (Can't believe that!) of a certain project. Now we all know the rave about remakes these days, or prequels of movies and popular culture. Consider this a reimagining. With the possibilities of planet coaster, I can now realize things that I couldn't do in Rct3, and possibly add other ideas that were never added. And this project, will be a bit different, but similar! I hope you guys enjoy this ride! Questions, concerns, comments, bring them!

I must say your architecture is beautiful, and the interior to the museum is just marvelous. It all definitely has that 'town by the sea' vibe to it.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes!

If this is what I think it is, then I am super excited as it was the first project I saw when I got to the RCT3 forums. Even if it isn't, I'm still excited to see yet another fantastic Plokoon pier park. I love the light house and the life guard house. I can't wait to see more!

^ Thank you Kindrly! The architecture is inspired by an actual building in Ocean City Maryland! Glad I conveyed that feeling well!

Glad you like it, took a while to make! And I am making habit to actually base my architecture off of real life inspirations, compared to how I used to do it; example: just building whatever in the moment!

Thank you everyone, for the views and interest! I can't wait to really get started...

'What's this?'

December 2nd 1962, boardwalk.

I've been a bit busy the past month and a half. My new job as a inspector has been chaotic but awarding. Since Atlantic City isn't too far, I had to stop by and see what all the ruckus was about. After all, I am curious! Could be nothing, could be something.

^ What's this? These secret contractors have been busy alright. Many pilings were poured apparently, to hold something quite sturdy. A boring fishing pier would probably be made out of log poles, or maybe a pier of entertainment?

^ A lot of progress indeed, they already started putting the decks in. I am really excited now, but we have to wait for more. However I did find a ripped letter up.

Plan Revision #2:
20 x 60 ft
Oak Lumber Depot
Order request for 24 types of paint.
Scaffolding needed soon.
Building type: Custom, to be made in house.
Ride name: P.. (ripped off)

Not much I can tell, I wonder what it is. What could possibly use that much paint?

Whoever can guess what type of attraction / building it is, gets a sneak peak picture message!

'The Fence' December 20th 1962

Its been a few weeks since I stopped by, so why not stop on by again? Traffic was getting a bit hectic getting there due to the last Christmas Shopping. Going down the boardwalk, it was a ghost town. As it should be, I did notice the pier was completed in record time. But something new that I spotted!

^ Getting closer, you can see large columns of wood. Looks to be pretty tall.

^ Disappointingly a fence stands in the way, apparently some trespassers were becoming a nuisance. But a tease on the sign, that leaves me wondering: Just tell us what it is already!

^ I'm getting to old to climb fences, but the adrenaline! Nothing much to spot, some storage trailers, and a foundation for a building. Maybe a restaurant? Fishing Shop? I have no idea.

More as it comes!

Love your story telling style. I think it's terrific how so many of us have retooled or reinvented our styles and in many cases are literally rebuilding our previous efforts in PC.

Can't wait to see where you go with this.

With 24 different paint colors, I'm going to go with a walk through or possibly a ride through Fun House.

^ Thanks Citytrader! Yeah I guess I feel passionate about certain old projects, and with this new simulation, I can now do so much and move things wherever instead of a grid. Plus boardwalks are so much fun to build!

'Studs Up' December 22nd 1962

Finally, some more progress on whatever this building is. I am thinking it is a restaurant of some sorts, but there seems to be much more to build. Strangely enough they seem to just be focusing on this particular part of the pier, I would imagine there is a lot more that they plan on building! The excitement is gradually building....

^ More studs going up.

I have a feeling there is going to be more exciting progress to be seen! Just a hunch.  ;)

Wow, I don't think I've seen a construction site in this game quite as convincing as what you just showed. Looks like there's still a lot of space left on the pier, so I look forward to what you have planned.

^ Thanks I appreciate it Kinderly. My other sort of hobby is construction projects, I love to keep track of skyscrapers under construction, architecture, anything related to building projects so I tend to try to make structures as if they can actually exist in reality.

'Tilted and Edgy' December 24th 1962

I figured I would head on down and snap a quick update before Christmas Eve festivities! I know, don't I have more important things to be doing right now? Well luckily I am no procrastinator! Traffic is not to good at the moment, but I don't mind that at all! With the curiosities in my head wondering what new additions have happened, I am still surprised that they haven't built anything else yet. With such a big space, there must be more that we haven't seen yet, or will see!

^ Despite how sunny this picture looks, it is cold and windy. Sand is damp from a rainstorm. Some new outside additions were built onto this structure.

^ And so what ... I trespassed! But here is our reward, but what reward is this? The studs are slanted and zig zigged, rather odd.

^ Other side is as well.

^ Our money shot! We have finally figured out what type of pier this will be! Amusement pier! This I believe is a tilt a whirl.

^ A shot of both together!

You've been getting more time to work on this than I thought based on what you said in the original post, and I for one am quite glad.  And I kind of doubt you're able to work much ahead of what you post what with the timeline and all (speaking from experience  :P)

The pictures and the storytelling are great, I can't believe some of the things you're coming up with to show that "under construction" look!!

I can definitely admire the way you commit to your narrative by actually creating the wooden skeleton of your buildings first, including some actual scaffolding supports. (unless I'm misinterpreting it?). I'd never have the patience for something like that!
Love the look of your Apartment blocks and your museum as well.

It's going to be interesting to experience the story of this park!  :)

^ Shhh... You've been around for quite a few of my piers such as one called PK studios by the pier with the triple drop tower, I remember you made a logo for me for the top back in 06. Obviously you also contributed ideas in the other park as well, some type of mine ride you proposed. Now, the biggest question, with CPG come back?  :w00t:

^ Yeah it makes it feel realistic, and it presents challenges. Like how would this exist in real life? Of course I have references for rides, and buildings I make, but as always I do put my own spin on it as well. But do buckle up it is going to be quite a ride!

'Rush Delivery' January 1st 1963

Happy new year to all! A year full of wonderful opportunities, and of course a new amusement pier opening in Atlantic City Boardwalk. I am for one excited, and also can say I have been receiving pictures from a worker on site! I gave him my address, and he sends what he can. Not too sure when they were taken, but what matters is up close goodies! I did ask about the pier and what it would be called, but as always he was hush. They all signed an agreement not to discuss names, and plans. He is doing us a favor by even sneaking photographs! His name is John by the way, and he is a recruited park carpenter.

'Screaming!' January 8th 1963

More photographs arrived! A lot more to see actually! Looking like some sort of haunted cave? Some kind of spooky funhouse attraction! Can't wait to see the final product.

^ The stairs agree, another story for sure!

John told me to expect a lot of new progress on other rides soon! He expects quite a few rides, and one that surely change the skyline of the boardwalk, what ever that may mean? Be sure to tune in for more daily updates!

Going Up! January 22nd 1963

Its been quite awhile since I went down the shore to check progress, work has been busy for me! And its also been awhile since John sent me some photographs, but look at what showed up today! Its not many pictures, but hell I'll just take one picture! Not sure when he took these, but progress is surely picking up some speed from what I see.

^ More of this funhouse is going up!

^ Holy smokes! A roller coaster is being built on the pier! How exciting! Looks to be wooden, and a pretty decent size, looks like its on the south side of the pier. Side note: Apparenty John is taking these pictures after everyone leaves, that way he doesn't get in trouble. But, hell anyone can see what this is from afar! This attraction should be a major draw on the boardwalk, and a big money maker! What do you guys think? What could this be named?

Creator's Note: Man I wish there was an abilty to color wooden supports to other colors instead of default brown. Re supporting the coaster takes a while!
Title: Re: 1963: 4/25/17 'Going UP!' What is all this racket and noise?

Haha, we got the wooden coasters with their realistic supports and I thought "I'll never have to custom support one of these ever again."   And now I want a white woodie so... yep.

Colour me intrigued by that wavy window structure in the first picture...and custom supporting an entire woodie? That's gonna require some real patience. Can't wait to see the result!

With some of these new cheat codes being announced, fingers crossed recoloring coasters is one of them!!!

Wonderful job, as always. Love that skeletal hand and skull!

^ Thanks, I know right? I could see them enabling a feature to fix that hopefully! But I don't mind, a long as it works.

^ I just tried out that cheat code! What a relief, should be very helpful, as I thought the friction was funky. I can't tell you how many times I'd have to make the hill taller for the train to make it back, was funny but frustrating. Thanks! Glad you like the hand! I have to hand it to me, it worked well!

Climbing! February 2nd 1963

Finally it is time to head down and check out the updates for myself. I know much has happened, but after a busy month I will be able to see these additions in person! Hopefully you guys enjoy!

^ The funhouse is taking in an interesting shape on the upper levels, I am intrigued.

^ Still not a clue, what it is!

^ What a site to behold!

^ One more shot before it gets dark! This will become the main attraction on the pier, and I certainly cannot wait to ride it!

More soon!

And again, I can't thank everyone enough for the support so far, its been very inspiring and thoughtful!

'Insert construction comment here' February 10th 1963

Well today I got my usual fix, a trio of pictures of more progress!

^ A shot of construction and the chaotic mess of things laying around.

^ Fun house is coming along, more angled walls being put into place.

'Up Above!' February 22nd 1963

Well more pictures, and I really mean new pictures! Photos with more progress going on, and some sneak peak of rides that have been added!

^ Looks like a station building for a rail road? Looks like its called Silver Bullet! It looks neat, and looks like it goes under the new coaster.

^ Hey look, our friend was able to give us some rare vantage points from the top of the unnamed wooden rollercoaster! I can see various different tracks! One looks like vintage cars?

^ A new ride has arrived, The whip as they call it.

^ Not sure where these shots were taken, perhaps the fun house? Some barrels.

^ Yeah, the fun house seems to be the likely spot. Some dark hallways, as the upper levels are being built.

More later!

I have childhood nightmares from those hanging barrels. There's a themepark in Denmark called "Bakken", and it has a "Hurlumhej-hus", bascially a fun house. I used to hate the place so much. And of course, at the end of the house-tour, there's a windmachine blowing wind up. and I remember wearing a dress as a little girl, and having it fly up, cause I didn't know it was there. I will never forget that embarassment  :'(

Everything here is so awesome though. Very titillating  :P . I love how you are actually building construction sites for all the things. So cool. Also, is that Kinderly's whip I'm spotting  ;) ?

^ I enjoyed your fun house story! I'm 25 years old, so my experiences with classical fun houses are rare since not many classis exist, but I do know what your talking about! You defiantly can't get away building those gags like that these days! Thank you again!

^ Bingo, I enjoy those types of parks. Not that people don't make great parks, but a presentation with no story or functional organization bores me sometimes. I enjoy, when people use suspense, teasers, construction, stories, and edit the pictures to the time frame, it makes it exciting! Glad you like it!

Your "anything can go anywhere" style from RCT3 translates perfectly to Planet Coaster. Love how you're using the pieces.

^ Yeah, well I never understood how people called that a style, I was never aware of that when I build parks, until people say I build a particular way. But yeah planet coaster offers a millions times more possibilities in terms of placement and rotation which is super helpful, but tedious as everyone knows by now.

'Ships Ahoy!' March 1st 1963

Some more pictures came in! And we may now finally figure out what this fun house actually is! Their treasure, eerrr I mean secret can't be hidden any longer!

^ But first, the boring stuff. Well maybe its not boring, by trains for these tracked rides started to arrive. New and sparkly finely polished. This looks like a miniature train ride, named Silver Bullet. It looks like it goes underneath the wooden rollercoaster! And next door, some vintage cars.

^ New pieces of wood are being cut to correct size. Each piece needs to be the right length for this strange fun house exterior.

^ A rare shot of the upper roof level, looks like there is a brief escape outside, and a chain and anchor?

^ The fun house is a giant pirate ship! A name was written on this photograph from my friend Mr. Smith, called K.E.N. Must be the name of the ship? What a cool looking attraction! Should be a huge landmark from the boardwalk!

What do you guys think? Would you walk through it?

^ It is very hard, I went through a few different experiments, seeing what would work. I tried to use the in game ship, and other pieces, but then realized this way was more flexible, and allowing more room on the inside to work with. Very tedious work, not something that takes a day to do, but weeks!

^ The story takes the least amount of time! Its the building part haha, opening up the game with a deep breath, "Here goes, time to work on this."

'Whip it!' March 8th 1963

Time for a personal tour! Somehow, they allowed me to actually take a walk around and take only a few pictures. They weren't answering my questions, that's for sure. I asked, what the heck is this pier called. They weren't allowed to say. They won't budge, but why? I'm a good source of free advertising in exchange for a free look in. But I will have to wait just like the other people who will fill up these boards in a few months...

I did learn a few pieces of information. The park is owned by a man named Will Wright, and the head of construction and management is Robert Plant. I saw a glimpse of Robert, but he looked serious, and concerned about progress. I heard him ask about why the interior of the Silver Bullet train ride wasn't even finished yet.

^ With signage going up, the roller coaster has a new name! The Meteor! The station is cleverly faced towards the boardwalk for patrons to see the large signage.

^ The vintage car ride, unnamed so far, is adjoined to the Silver Bullet Station. A unique solution for tight space. Roof doesn't seem to be done yet.

^ They also seemed to be testing lights today, the whip was retrofitted with a roof and fancy bright lights, again facing only the boardwalk, for good advertising it seems.

^ The Pirate Ship, which I will call it, has more progress, painted also. Some more detail added, yet that back building has yet to be finished with any siding yet. I wonder why? And I must say this fun house is massive, multi story!

^ John Smith told me this is the park's proudest attraction, Bill Tracy a amusement park display artist helped design the interior and parts of the exterior.

Creator's Note: Thank you everyone as always! These rides are taking a long time to do, but I am excited! I am glad to finally be able to show you the rides as they are finally being finished, instead of just studs and duds. As I said the Pirate Ship was a pain in my rear, it took 3 different approaches to figure out which one would look right and fit right. Everything was sort of layed out on a grid using beams, and I figured out how much space I had to get the angles right with the windows, which work great for the boats outside! I did do these off the map, and then saved them as blue prints and placed it carefully. Then I used a queue path and figured out how I could move around inside the ship to work with a layout. I am proud of it so far, and its going to be fun working on those other rides  ;) .

That funhouse ship looks incredible! Is there going to be an interior? Regardless, the woodwork is so perfect. I've never been to a pier park personally, but this one looks like it's sorta "rugged"-y enough to be that close to saltwater and constant weather changes. This might be one of my top parks, if not the top park for me, here on sgw  :D can't wait to see some better pictures! Any clue when the NDA is lifted  ;) ??

^ Thanks Ruby! Yes there is absolutely an interior, and I am so excited to eventually show everyone! It took a long while. Yeah a lot of buildings, specifically metal gets rusty and dried out from salt air. It presents itself interesting problems and solutions in ocean side cities. Thanks for that by the way, its nice to see you are inspired by this!

'Phantom Square' March 18th 1963

^ A shot from a scene where Silver Bullet passes by, and what cliché for a train to stop into what else? A old western ghost town, called Phantom Square. A small town tucked underneath Meteor somehow! Apparently there are little themed towns along the train, and a planned indoor section!

^ John took this on the lift hill of Meteor. You can get a good picture of how the rides intertwine. The tracked vintage car ride is apparently called, Turnpike! Its a shorter ride, but has a lot of themed areas as well.

^ A front shot, showing newly added advertising which is going to be important if this new pier is going to prosper!

^ I'll end with this. The joint station for Silver Bullet and Turnpike looks like its finally finished.

More updates to come, keep tuned! What are you most excited for?

Things are starting to shape up and boy do they look good. This is one of the best work-in-progress parks on the forums. And I love the funhouse ship.

Things are really moving along on the construction project!  I really love the intertwining of the various rides.

And BTW, you have now moved the chronology into my own lifetime by a few days.  So where has this wonderful place been all my life?

The Phantom Square is so cool! As citytrader says, looking forward to seeing some POVs. And I love that station, something very satisfying about all the red pillars and beams.

'Deadlines'  April 5th 1963

Man its been quite some time since we had a update! Good thing my great friend John Smith has some pictures. He says he has been busy running around. The park has been stocking up and making final adjustments and finishes around the pier. The owner Will Wright is always right, or I mean he can't wait for the city and area to finally experience this park of his! The name is STILL not known, and I wonder why? But lets check in on the busy ant like activities shall we?

^ Apparently fences are important, I mean I wonder why?

^ Some supplies are arriving. I don't remember there being a brewery being built around here? And a worker on the roof, probably finishing roof work.

^ I find this photograph fascinating... John told me this fountain was as expensive as the Pirate Ship! Some plants have also arrived, to give the park a tropical feel in such a state as New Jersey Shore.

^ The entrance! Didn't know if there was going to be one, but there is! And this worker seems like he wants to photobomb these pictures, wait what does photo bombing mean? Maybe I'll find that out it 40 years...

^ And to finish off the update, the grand entrance, or ticket booths! What a sight to see! Only a matter of time now folks....

Question of the day:

What rides do you think will do well?

This is coming along really great! I love construction/story-line projects, so fun to watch things come together. You've done a great job with the pier vibe. I like the use of the log flume as a fountain, and the coaster for the entrance.

Very nice mix of scenery styles.

Nicely done with that skeleton. I like how it support the ship. That coaster western scene is looking very nice and must best great from on board.

Your share is much appreciated, thanks a lot.

Have a nice day.

1963 Opening Day:

Hmm. Wondering why there hasn't been any updates? Must be something huugge! (Well a week Florida trip, took up a lot of time.)  Yes, it is correct! We have finally made it to the grand opening of _____ Pier! And boy are we excited! Rides have been testing, final preparations, and other important endeavors. Memorial weekend has arrived, and that means I am heading down to the beach, and enjoy the good ol' sunshine, sights and sounds of the newly Atlantic City Boardwalk.

^ Morning has been kind to us so far, weather is cloudy with sun. Excited crowds fill the boards. Sounds can be heard in the distance...

^ But first a quick beach picture! I do know how to dress for the fine lady.

^ Many bystanders were intrigued by the Pirate Ship, some murmurs about that.

^ The Scull almost seems shocked looking as it swallows new victims... I love this this attraction!

^ Lines were sure long, its going to be a big hit!

^ So much to explore, so little time!

^ The Captain pleas a warning about Scull Cave, and to forget about any treasures on the ship's main deck! Do we listen?

^ But first before we venture off this ship, we have to get some energy and eat some grub. Any takers?

^ And if your like me who hated sea weed surprise, best be drinking some good old rum in the bar to wash it down!

^ Being immersed in this ship's atmosphere we get a brief break into reality as we look at the rest of the busy landscape.

Appreciate all the wonderful support and patience! Some wonderful cool surprises in store! ;)

1963 Opening Day:

Bravo!     .  (BH pops champagne and serves drinks all around).  Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!  Congrats on finally reaching this point.  I reckon you built this park 3 times counting all the multiple WIP shots that you then had to tear down and replace with stuff further along in the construction process.  Quite a job!

Each park has it's own side to it, a unique thing.

For this one, that unique is very special as the park itself is good, the story that lead to it is what is making it so one of a kind. The provided background for this place is something of it's own. Very immersive storyline and makes ones wants to know more about it, as it's getting built before our eyes.

Very nice advanced usage of scenery items and your sailship visit is quite orginal.

Very appreciated sharing. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, may love and light shine on you.

But the big question remains:  How'd you do it?  I see queue path but no flat ride... is it in the big warehouse next to the ship?

Its a lot better then just showing, heres this. heres a unfinished area I'm making. I try to make it like a TV show, teasing, and rewarding, and engaging. Hopefully that's working well!

^ The amusement pier also features its own kiddie area for children! The whip, for a fun quick spin. The Small Ferris Wheel offers some views, for those afraid of heights. And of course the Carousel, a classic!

^ I still enjoy looking at this structure!
The lifeguard museum was mobbed with people.

^ The SECRET is out! We finally know the name of this joint! Pirate Reef Pier!

Creator's Note: I know some of you guys knew! For those who don't know, Pirate Reef was a project of mine I started back in 2007 in RCT3, it was my longest and probably most known projects. I never got bored of it, and it was always challenging. A fun fact: I originally didn't want it to look like a boardwalk, making it on a tiny island. And then eventually I gave in, and slowly (Some how, unrealistically) A beach popped up eventually, and it looked like a pier. And also more piers eventually showed up, different competing parks, which was entertaining! Pirate Reef was a project that had many Custom rides, most are inspired by other rides if you research a bit, you will know what they are, and some of my own ideas as always. NOW, I had to bring Pirate reef into the next generation of gaming, like how Shyguy did with Wonder World, or other parks around here this won't be a carbon copy! (Some ideas just aren't practical, and some are now possibly!) I do hope you enjoy the ride!

And here is the old thread with no pictures.

^ Thanks johny! Funny you mention Ocean City Maryland, I have been going down there the past 25 years, my parents have a place on 94th st. where the Pyramid Condo is. There are a lot of references from there, you may notice one of those already if you haven't! I'm a big fan of the Haunted House and Pirates Cover in Trimpers Rides, very classic!

^ That's how you get the ratings! (Joking) Well I try to use what I can, its not as if I'm doing it on purpose really, its just what  I do to paint a picture or create. That means a lot as always!

I really like that wooden coaster.  All nice and tangled up, with the classic boardwalk ride look to it.  And I remember that very cool watch tower from way back at the beginning, standing alone and forlorn.  Glad to see it's got some company now ;)

^ Thanks, totally going for that feel Bullethead! Yeah it has a friend now!

The new Meteor looks great. I enjoyed the video of the original. Boy have things changed since its RCT3 days.

^ Thank you! I think so too, the old Meteor was a bit lame and small. Though I do remember a huge cult following, and how people were mad at me for demolishing it back in 07'. And yeah I haven't watched that video is god knows how many years, and forgot about it! Its amazing seeing how rct3 is compared to what we have now!

Very believable boardwalk woody. Great attention to detail combined with a realistic layout. Nice work!

^ Thank you! The layout was hard, trying to not take up so much space, and trying the get the damn coaster to make it to the end haha! Took a dozen tweaks!

Omergerd! This is amazing!!!!

^ This means a lot coming from a talented planet coaster builder! Huge fan of your work!

Part 3!
And back to our scheduled program, as promised! More to see!

^ Silver Bullet Train is tucked to the side of Meteor, and it shares a station building to the kiddie car ride called: Turn Pike! Riders get ready for there tame experience!

^ But First we visit Turn Pike, where this kiddie highway goes through many themes of land though out the short journey. First through a castle and then to a nearby village, where a choir can be heard.

^ Silver Bullet meanwhile, has a small hill! (The old silverbullet was just a train ride with none.) Many kids are surprised when they see this hill! Its almost like the preschool to the big kid Meteor. Also noteworthy is the track goes over the beach, giving the feeling you may tip over!

^ After Silver Bullet goes in the darkride section of the ride (Well see this another time!), it comes out bringing us to the past in Phantom Square a western ghost town, best not to stick around here!

^ On to the more ordinary rides, such as tilt a whirl! Very popular today! I love the ride!

^ This picture turned out strange, but it will do. Roll O Plane, is probably one of the more intense rides on the pier! I haven't gone on it yet!

Next part next week! (Yes there is a cool surprise coming...)

Wow, I had so much to catch up on here. The white supports on meteor look so awesome. Quite cool watching your old Meteor video and seeing how it's progressed from RCT3 to PC, although I did get possibly spoiled at the end... and I love how the Silver Bullet teeters over the edge of the pier for an extra little bit of "intensity". Great stuff!

There's a lot going on for such an early phase.  I really like the filters in the last 2 shots, it sells the timeframe perfectly. Do you have any POV's planned?  Silver Bullet should be a fun one.

^ Thanks! I experiment every now and then with some filter effects. Possibly in the future! ;)

^ Thanks man the supports took forever! Yeah the spoiler, but hey that may not happen! Yeah that's actually new in this version of the Silver Bullet train, adds a bit of fun to the ride!

PART 5: Lights go on!

What fun would it be at night? Well luckily I have some photos to show you just that, the newly added night life to the boardwalk!

^ I must add I'm surprised the management didn't add more lighting around here, some dark areas. Maybe they will add some as the summer happens.

^ Luckily they allowed my to take a few pictures inside! A much darker experience. I've talked the worker here, and he told me that in the daytime it is toned down and at night they turn the lights down on purpose! This corridor begins the journey...

I think it's safe to say that this version of your funhouse exceeds the original.

-Has a staff of 4 operators in the ride.
-Owner based it off of Disney themed attractions, with its own twist.

What a nice back ground story to this one, as well as for original rides.

It's a simple look at this place that will lift your mood up if your having a bad day. When it comes to visit, it's above and beyond light speed that this bad day will fade away, simply spending a short moment in.

Very entertaining, thank you.

Love this.  There's much more to it than I had thought, don't know how you came up with the ideas for all those different rooms, or how you managed to fit all that into the given space.

SO, if you don't mind me asking, is it safe to assume that all guests must ride the tilt a whirl after they exit?   :P

SEASON ROUNDUP!

After every season the management puts out some information, that they will look to see how the park is doing, in terms of reliability, popularity, problems, and other information. Well today, I got my hands on the first year's report!

Some interesting facts in there!

But as a general survey for those who have visited but didn't fill out a survey:

What was your favorite ride and why?

What ride could be improved?

What would you like Pirate Reef Pier to add in the future in 1964?

Your custom ferris wheel looks photo-realistic in that report!  (as do the other rides).    Love the black and white shots, really sells the timeframe of this story.

I have lots of favorites :)  But the pirate ship is obviously the heart and soul of this project.

I would vote for adding a log flume, but I don't know my history well enough to know if that would fit into 1964 very well...

[Crap, I just saw that I'm an operator on The Whip!  :o I'm late for work!!!]  Haha, love that idea of making us all responsible, good job!!

I love the last few updates. The interiors of the Pirate Ship are even better than I expected! The floor plans and season roundup add a great touch to bringing this project to life. I was wondering why I didn't see any shots of peeps riding the Tiny Wheel, and then I saw that I'm supposed to be the operator. Since Mr. Wonder never lets me have any time away from WW, I guess the Tiny Wheel will never be functional, unless of course, you fire me and replace me with someone who isn't a slave to Mr. W. :P

1963 Fall Construction Update:

Well the first season is in the books, and now its sad as everyone leaves to go back to school, work, and stay inside as it gets chillier and darker earlier. But for me, this is exciting as I know Pirate Reef Pier is going to be working on adding some new rides, or updates! But first, a surprise as I read the newspaper today...

1963 Fall Construction Update:

Well with news of the new attraction being worked on, I had to go down and stop by for a look myself!

^ I saw a construction vehicle on the southside of the pier.

^ You are defiantly right about that. What took a minute to make something in rct3 now can take an hour, if you want to do it right. That is why my updates have been once a week, and also thanks to being busy as well. But the reward is better in Planet because now you can truly realize a potential. Thanks for stopping by!

1963 Fall Construction Update: Is this wood leveled?

Another week and another opportunity to check out on new progress! It may seem repetitive, but to me its never the case! Chilly weather is finally starting to come around, and leaves changing and the landscape of this pier is changing as well.

^ Yes, one of these days they are going to catch me sneaking around. It's worth it! More wood has been added, for whatever it is for...

^ Looks like some strange framework, this studs don't look level to me?!

^ I'm really not entirely sure what this ride is!

^ There obviously is a rhyme and reason for the strange wood work.

^ And finally to end the update, I stumbled upon this rail of some sort bolted to the floor. Reminds me of the rail that the Turn Pike cars ride on. This could be a clue!

Hey everyone I'm very sorry for the slow updates lately. It's been a very busy month when it came to working and other projects in my life. By the time I get home I'm too tired to work on this. But I do plan on continuing and updating this as it has been a lot of fun building and the reactions have been very positive and fun to read. So no fear, there will be updates at some point of time. Hey everyone I'm very sorry for the slow updates lately.

Don't apologize.  First off, the real world gets in everybody's way.  Second, this is your park---the rest of us are just along for the ride.  It goes at your pace, not ours ;)

Just a heads up everyone, the new DLC has me getting the itch to get back into things. Expect an update at some point in the month!

1963 Spring Construction Update:

Hello friends; I am writing you today with a new update. It has been a busy fall and winter; as the holidays tend to get in the way for sure! I have even forgotten about the new ride; and have been curious about what Pirate Reef's new attraction could be! So I took the time and I finally drove down to Atlantic City to check it out. And lets just say that progress has been made...

^ Sneaking onto the pier (I didn't get caught!) I couldn't help but notice this new scull addition on the back exit of the Pirate Ship attraction. Its nice to see that they continue to add to existing rides.

^ Here is that new attraction; what ever it is this strange timber fence is blocking our view; I have a feeling its not a construction fence.

^ A closer view; something tropical! Is this a garden of sorts?

^ Jumping onto the pier; this tribal jungle looking building has been built; but what is it for? Is it an entrance to this garden / ride? Only time will tell. This isn't your typical new ride it seems!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello gang! Its been a while! A lot has been going on and honestly I kind of wanted to wait until Planet Coaster had a few more expansions. I was hoping that I would find useful classic flat rides and scenery to use before I tried to make them myself. I have dabbled a bit here and there but I am not like I was when I was in my teens being 27 means a lot of other adult responsibilities, new job, dating girls, and other hobbies like music and being in a band. While Planet Coaster is awesome; it isn't the type of game like RCT3 where I could mess around for an hour and make something fast. Planet Coaster requires a lot of fine tuning, and patience. But then again I do enjoy sharing and creating. I do admire a lot of other parks and creations as well. There are so many talented people making amazing things where I ask myself: "How / where do they find the time!?!" But anyway I thought I would update you guys on what's been going on.

I hope to keep working and building, as there are many ideas and rides I want to make in this story timeline park!

^Thanks Shyguy! It is good to be back; its been busy for me but I realize how relaxing and fun it is to be a part of this community. Yes it has been a long wait. At least it wasn't as long as the wait between the starwars trilogies? :w00t:

Plokoon is back!   I haven't forgotten about this project, glad that you haven't either.  Eagerly awaiting more!!

^ Thanks for the fanfare! Yes I can't wait to dive back in. I have worked on future attractions for this park here and there. I can't wait for people to check them out!

1963 Spring Construction Update

Work is continuing onto something new? But for what? Its a bit late for a new ride; but owner Will Wright and Engineer Robert Plant are the masters of suspense...

^ Workers inspect the pole to make sure it is long enough.

^ Here at the scene of the crime: err I mean site. Looks to be above the new attraction building. I heard rumors of a eatery. That sounds outlandish though.

^ Now to the goodies; don't tell anyone! This is secret! Now we know why Will Wright complained about this month's water bill.

^ The station area; unfinished it seems but there seems to be a cave area of this water ride; now we know what that building is for.

^ Even with fake foliage and rocks it really doesn't look like that at all! This jungle looks like a scene in the Amazon!

More soon...

Also, I voted for roller coaster because that's just what I want.

1963 Spring Construction Update: What is going on up there?

The past couple of weeks has been active on the pier. Something new is going up!

^ It seems that the poles are for a new building; but for what type of building?

^ Some decking began being laid down for a sturdy floor.

^ A few days later more framework! These workers aren't messing around. I heard that the plan was to build the ride and building at the same time but permits took way too long for approval of another level up. Darn Atlantic City permits!

^ A picture from another friend of mine; his photographs are better then mine; it really shows the color of this new ride entrance way.

^ Another day or two this is what they have finished so far. The roof is coming along; I tried asking but they weren't allowed to say what this building is.

^ And finally I will leave you with a picture of a new sign they put up on the north side of the pier!

Only a month until opening! We will find out a lot! I am ready for the summer; how about you guys?

1963 Spring Construction Update: Odds and Ends

As we get closer to opening day; some finishing touches and extra little things are being worked on.

^ A flat bed arrived with some new lighting. A few workers surround and check it out.

^ The lights are most likely being added to the newer pier portions.

^ Speaking of new things; a Merry Mixer has been put together. This is a new ride for this season; I believe it will be called Hurricane.

^ Lastly a picture of the new jungle attraction; looking nice and colorful today.

1963 Opening Day!

Part 1

It is that time again where the sun stays up longer and the crowds cling to the boards fun the charm and fun of the boardwalk! And of course I am here for the fun and documentation of it all! I have been super excited about the new rides and additions and can't wait to see what others think as well. Now onto the summer update!

^ But before that lets get a nice view of the pier from far away. I'm still in love with the Pirate Ship attraction; it has become a landmark within its first year!

^ But it has some ways to go before it is as historical as this structure. The Life guard tower is old, and still a jewel of the skyline here...

^ Inside is a bit of fun with the museum area.

I'm thinking back to your RCT3 version and seem to remember lots of signage on the exterior of the pier advertising what was inside.  Cool that you've got that going on again (or maybe not again if I'm remembering incorrectly :P)

Great seeing the coaster and the pirate ship in the same overhead; both are signature attractions though I suspect Jungle Land will give them both a run for their money.  Anxious to see what comes next.

^ Thanks! I am sure you will like what is coming soon!

This is fantastic!!  I LOVE the Pirate Ship so much!!!!

^ Thanks Fisherman! It is always an honor to see you still around; your rct3 rides were legendary and its quite obvious that planet coaster has even allowed your newest creations to become other worldly and very detailed! The Pirate ship was fun to recreate in this game; the grid in rct3 and the use of the mini golf constrained my ability to make it how it really would be in real life.

Beautiful, nice compact layout. Love the roof of the Whip. Very retro looking!

^ Thanks! I love the challenge of fitting things in limited real estate. Thanks! Trying to go for that 60's look.

^ I swear you remember more then I do at times JPAlmighT! I think I did do that because many piers that I have been to tend to do that. Ah; you are jumping ahead haha! Yeah they are totally custom rides meant to really make your imagination feel as if you are a pirate or ect. Well don't think back at the timeline to much because just like movie remakes I have changed things around. You may already notice a few things placed differently haha.

1963 Opening Day Part 2

It is time for us to really dig deep into the heart of the park and explore the newer additions!

^ The Silver Bullet received its own sign and some other added vegetation around the queue. As the owner Will Wright mentioned; we shouldn't feel like were on a pier at all.

^ The Boardwalk CAFE; a much needed addition that many guests complained about not having anywhere to eat or drink. This problem is now solved.

^ Turn Pike's adventure looks a bit different now with the new added gardens and the Boardwalk Café. Restaurant goers can look below at the fun and excitement going on.

^ Silver Bullet riders get a nice view of Pirate Reef's newest attraction!

^ In the distance Meteor Riders enjoy the thrill of a hill.

^ Little Apple is a neat underrated part of Turn Pike; the sound of car horns and traffic can be heard playing from speakers giving riders that New Yawk feel.

^ But back to Boardwalk Café where the shakes are out of this world; and the fries are just right.

^ A few early patrons enjoying a brunch meal.

^ A nice view from up here and a good sea breeze! Lets hope for no seagulls!

^ Never underestimate the Tilt a whirl! The lines are long and for a good reason. Just don't eat before you ride. Same can be said for the Roll O Plane; which was moved to a new location to make room for the new pier additions.

More soon....

I love the concept of the Little Apple segment of the Turn Pike. Honking horns, gears & belts, scaffolding- everything to make a New Yawkuh feel at home. :D

Quote: "A nice view from up here and a good sea breeze! Lets hope for no seagulls!"

But... where's the ocean? Looks like the pier is out in the middle of a sandy desert. Maybe it's just low tide... low, low tide. :P

^ Thanks! I am hoping Planet Coaster releases some new bio dome that is just ocean on one side; one can dream! I loved what RCT3 did with just having a option to remove the background. But the show must go on JB.

Part 3: More fun to be had!

^ The Scrambler is a newer ride brought over to back of the pier. So far so good!

Enter Jungle Land

This year's newest attraction on Pirate Reef Pier! Go on a adventure in the Amazon jungle where exotic animals rule the land; but watch out for the local tribes! This ride is unique as it is a water ride. The props and scenery were built by Bill Tracy and Pirate Reef's team of people. The hardest part with this ride was figuring out how to create a bathtub on the pier that will be sufficient enough for the ride; luckily the Park Engineer Robert Plant was able to figure it out!

^ Many curious and daring guests wait in the decorated line. Sounds of birds and monkeys can be heard making the ride even more mysterious behind the fences.

^ On aboard a log that is; our trek awaits!

^ A explorer looks at a mysterious lion statue..

^ It is best we stay inside the boat at all times or we may suffer the same fate!

^ We shouldn't plan on staying for dessert!

^ Some sculls present a warning for whats to come...

^ A lady pleas for help. Water bubbles behind her; what could it be?

^ The ride surprisingly is long for it's small footprint; it even becomes a darkride at the end in a cave. The spiders have found a new meal!

After a minute in the dark the ride is finally over! I would rate this ride as a 4.5 / 5! They have done a great job with the theming and it is a one of a kind for sure! A lot of fun for all ages!

^ Lastly; I noticed something at the end of the pier. A hint for what's to come? Something western? Well have to wait until next year!

I will post some night shots as well! Be patient!

Anxious to see how you did the body of water that the logs are in... is it a separate body of water from the "ocean" around the pier?  If so, very impressive.

I love the dude getting cooked in the kettle, or is that the bathtub scene you referred to?  It's clever either way.

If I could make a suggestion, it would be with regard to the visible lights along the ride.  Do you have the studios DLC?  If you want your lights visible for that "backstage" feel, there's a spotlight in that pack that looks a bit more realistic and doesn't have the clumsy support handle that feels so oversized in this game.  But all those lights definitely have me intrigued to see how this is going to look at night.

Post by: shyguy on October 05, 2019, 12:36 PM
I liked the humorous scenes in the new ride. (I think they're supposed to humorous...) The only thing that bugged me a bit was the spotlights that were scattered about, some seemingly floating on the water. They were pretty distracting. Maybe if you found a way to hide them, like inside rocks or something, it would look much better. Otherwise, a fun looking ride.

EDIT: It looks like JPAlmighT posted the same time I did and also gives good advice about the lights.

It's funny how you guys mentioned the lights. As I was looking at the pictures I was like, "something seems off... " Then it hit me that I should have placed the lights better Haha. It's one of those things you miss sometimes.

What do you guys think of the new version of Jungle Land compared to the rct3 version?

And I basically built a land bath tub and filled it with water. It was very tedious and finicky but it paid off.

So by "bath tub" you mean the body of water that the ride sits in?  If so that answers all of my previous questions.

Unfortunately I have no memory of the Jungle Land from your previous incarnation so I get to enjoy this like a new person.  :D

My favorite scene is the adventurer simmering in the pot. And every pier-based park has to have a Scrambler. (It's one of the rules.) Maybe you could post a pic or two of your RCT3 version of Jungle Land so we can compare? Nice update.

The only thing that remains JB is this video sadly. I do have a hard drive that may have pictures I backed up before the thread lost the pictures. My original park file and pictures were wiped accidentally 8 years ago from my hard drive.

In the video you can see a couple of the custom rides If you look hard enough but jungle land cant be seen.

I enjoyed the Pirate Ship walkthrough. :)  The brig screenshot in particular. That's a lot of bars/cells for a ship; the crew must be pretty rowdy. The crooked room looks great; I always enjoy those. I like that you used simple cylinders for the canons; a real pier park would probably do the same.

Pretty cool log flume! The giant gator makes me think of the animatronic found in the Shanghai Disneyland Roaring Rapids attraction.

Good stuff, I think I like the "suddenly appearing airplane" shot the best, I bet that looks cool with the propeller spinning.

In the last post you said "Final update", you just meant for this season, right?  There's more, right?   RIGHT?

Yep. When I think of jungle birds, penguins immediately come to mind. :P  I like how you use these classic (some, not so classic) dark ride stunts/gags into your creations.

^ Thanks! Yeah it is similar! Also think Jungle Cruise as well; especially back in the 60's.

^ Yeah it is a cool effect; fans blow towards you and then the lights appear fast with a loud stinger sound effect. It will totally make you jump! Knoebel's Haunted Mansion has a effect like that with truck lights and a horn. As you know there are many years to get to!  ;)

^ Haha; some of my humor coming into light. Yeah it is fun trying to capture that feel of early 60s stunts and theming that was done very well in that time. Some of them wouldn't be well accepted these days if they were made today however.

1964 Season Round Up!

After every season the management puts out some information to help them decide on what to change or add next. A lot of it explaining popularity, maintenance, and other facts. So here is this year's report!

But first!

Jungle Land breakdown

'Explore the depths of the Amazon jungle as you and your tour guide discover the treasures and secrets that lay beyond the foliage.'

-For Family of all ages.

-Designed by Bill Tracy and Amusement Display Company and Pirate Reef Staff; along with engineering done by JpAlmite and Robert Plant (Pirate Reef Engineer)

-The attraction is a one of a kind; the water system and underwater guide system had to be created properly to allow the ride to become what it is now.

-All foliage is fake and made to withstand hurricane winds; along with the props which were bolted down and protected with a special weather seal around them.

-Originally the ride was going to be longer and go underneath Meteor but it ended up being to costly; which ended up being just a short cave portion.

-Based off of Jungle Cruise

Some reviews from a few guests:

Quote
Tyler E. Says: "I wish this was longer; I hate short rides!

Quote
Sarah Q. Says: "I loved it so much! The animals were neat and seemed real."

Quote
Phillip T says: "My kids closed their eyes during the cave scene."

Quote
Tom Y. Says: "I enjoyed the part where we were about to go through a waterfall and then it turned off at the last second."

"What was your favorite ride and why?" The Pirate Ship walkthrough. I like dark rides, especially when they're done well; and even when they're not, it's still fun to spot the cheesiness of it. Also, I like that you can spend as much time as you want exploring a walkthrough ride.

"What ride could be improved?" Maybe the Scrambler, or the Roll-O-Plane. Some sort of (cheap) theming would go a long way to add more fun and excitement to them.

"What would you like Pirate Reef Pier to add in 1965?" Maybe a tracked dark ride; something like a Haunted Seaside Shack?

I like how you included us SGW denizens into the Season Roundup. :)  Even Vodhin made it in there!

1965 Winter Construction Update:

It has been a quiet few months so far; not much on the radar. Stores closing, the days growing darker faster and the cold weather takes reign. But I always get a bit excited after the new year because that means I get to sneak over to Atlantic City and see a glimpse of the summer if only for a few hours or so. I decided to head down after some rumors I heard from the telephone from a few close residents nearby. I am eager to see what the fuss is about! It is time for some construction updates!

^ First things first; north of Pirate Reef Pier I spotted some fresh retention wall logs. I wonder what these are for? Maybe storage for future telephone poles possibly?

^ I also noticed some construction equipment Pirate Reef Pier south end.

^ Attention seems to be drawn behind Jungle Land. Seems interesting...

^ I saw some concrete forms laying around, looks to be the start of pier expansion..

More soon...

1965 Winter Construction Update:

It has been a busy past few weeks down in Atlantic City Boardwalk; my friend Steve Smith has been giving me a few scoops and brand new pictures of the progress so far. He noted me about a couple of new rides expected this year for expansion and some new competition! It will be interesting to see what he means by that; but we will find out soon!

^ Concrete forms in place for the supports for the new pier expansion. Maybe a new rollercoaster?

^ A shot from my friend from above...

^ A few weeks later; the concrete was poured! The decking is ready to be placed soon...

^ Whats this in the distance?

^ Upon closer inspection it looks look another pier? Is this part of Pirate Reef's ownership? Could this be another company? Only time will tell!

1965 Winter Construction Update:

Another couple of weeks have passed and more work is being done! Now lets get on to it...

^ A week ago the workers are making more progress with the new deck extension.

^ In a weeks time they managed to finish up the whole deck; talk about fast! They mean business. Pieces of new fence arrive waiting to be installed on the sides...

^ Even though Jungle Land was just built; Pirate Reef continues to add some detail to the outside fence. Painting begins on it...

^ Some pieces of lumber arrive for the new ride perhaps?

^ A foundation lining of hard wood lays out a perimeter of a new building; a building for what purpose?  ;)

We will find out soon what Pirate Reef's plans are!

Rumor Mill:

- I heard something about a new storage building being built to house the maintenance.

- A rumor of a new amusement park pier owned by another company.

- A new large attraction for Pirate Reef.

What rumors have you guys heard?

^ Thank you JP! I want to make it feel like real life, and to put you guys in the story more. It would be easy to just build and show but I like to create a timeline as its more interesting (hopefully.)

1965 Winter Construction Update:

Work is picking up at Pirate Reef Pier and we (as in my friends down the shore.) have you covered! No word on what the new additions are going to be but from what I heard vaguely is that it is a major attraction. It was a bit windy down the beach for sure, winter is surely here and making itself known.

^ A couple hours later, some beams are put into place. This structure looks to be quite tall!

^ By the end of the day the workers are finished. More to be done in the upcoming weeks; it looks to be multi story...

My friend was able to talk to Robert Plant the park Manager / Engineer

Friend: Hello Mr. Plant it is nice to meet you; I got a few questions if you don't mind answering.
Robert Plant: Why hello, sure I got a few minutes.
F: I first want to congratulate you for two successful years with the park.
R: Thank you I appreciate that. Will Wright's vision has been brought to life for sure.
F: What can you tell us about additions this next summer?
R: Well lets just say it will make an impact in the park's skyline.
F: Is it a rollercoaster?
R: Something like that, if I told you everything it would be less fun right?
F: That is true. How do you guys feel about another pier being built nearby?
R: We welcome new neighbors and competition, it allows us to strive for better attractions and entertainment.
F: Thank you for your time, I wish you guys well with the new attraction construction process.
R: No problem, see you around and if I see you guys snapping photographs again I will make you the next stunt inside Jungle Land.

Well we got some bit of information. What do you guys think?

1965 Winter Construction Update:

A week later and the ants (err) I mean workers are making decent progress. They want to be able to close off the new building in less then a month from what I hear. I think they will hit that target and more; hopefully the snow stays away and it stays dry. But onwards!

^ Some materials lingering around...

^ Decking has been placed and some scaffolding has been erected to help ease the process on the façade.

^ I was sent this shot on the roof from a secret source, looks like track! We have a new rollercoaster on our hands! But this one is different, smaller and will be going inside the building for most of the ride it seems. I have heard that it is being built by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters and is being engineered by John C. Allen. The steel track is defiantly modern...

^ The façade begins the exterior phase, I wonder what this ride is going to be called!

^ One last look in the distance, we will have some more questions answered soon I feel!

Keep posted!

Creator's Note

I am super excited to show of what took a while to do, I have been working on this ride since last year in bits.  A matter of fact I am already working on future attractions as well. People who followed the old Pirate Reef Park will know where this is heading and how terrible the RCT3 version of this ride was, I feel this game has finally done justice so what I really wanted it to look like. And obviously I had more space to work with helps haha. So Stay tuned!

So am I. ;)  About the ride operator, you could always plop a piece of scenery over him to cover him up, right? The odd angled woodwork on the façade looks like it's going to be some sort of faux cliff side/rockwork. Just a guess.

I recently hid an entire operator and his controls underneath a staircase :P

But seriously, take your spooky planks and build a box around him.  Or, possibly, one of the crates from the adventure set might be big enough to encase him forever.  Killing peeps is fun.   :)

JB's guess plus the mine train cars itself suggest a mining-cave type thing...  very anxious to see what you do with it.

1965 Winter Construction Update:

Unfortunately these will be some of the last few pictures of this new ride as they are getting a bit paranoid about people documenting the interior and the ride itself; but fear not we got a good update today from my friend!

^ Some more framework on the west facing part of the ride; possibly the money shot of this attraction. I did hear that they finally turned the power on the ride and did a few test runs!

^ I love my friend Mr. Smith for taking these photographs but I feel like he is going to get hurt one of these days balancing on the track!

^ One last shot of the front and we will call it a day...

Next update I will head down in a month and check out the new pier north of here! Stay tuned till then!

1965 Winter Construction Update

Its about time I drag myself down the shore for a off season update! My friend did a great job providing photographs but now its my turn. Its been a few months so far and I feel like we will be able to see a lot of new progress on the new ride and the new pier and boy did I get some excitement for the upcoming summer! Lets check it out shall we?

^ One this I noticed was the construction boom down Atlantic City, a lot of new motels and hotels were built on the boardwalk. I am sure the piers will be happy about that. I also noticed a lot of busy activity on the boards as well...

^ Ahh, there we are! I can see the new ride on the pier from here. I see some cactuses?

^ On the other side we get a better look. Looks like a desert colored cliff face / mountain.

^ Looks like a Mine type ride, it looks mysterious for sure! They built this pretty fast I would say! I noticed they took the Jungle line fence down...

^ Nothing interesting in the back, just some fire exits.

^ This is a big condominium for sure! Looking north as we make our descent towards the new pier, stay tuned for more.....  ;) :)

We were talking about video vs. photos to display rides; this attraction is an example where I'd love to see the video.  Compact dark rides like this are very interesting to see the layout, placement of theming, lighting, etc.  And since this is probably a fast paced coaster, that makes it all the more interesting.  But I definitely understand you have to do what works for you, and making videos is (often) a pain.

Anyway, great to see that earlier tease with the rockwork coming together now.  I love the added realism of the unthemed back of the building with the escape doors and fire exits, and it's great to see the buildings along the surrounding streets coming up.  An exciting place to own a condo, for sure!

I'm chomping at the bit to see the inside of the mine-themed dark ride. And I agree with JP about seeing the unthemed side of the ride; it's always interesting to see how the magic is done. I remember seeing an image on the Gorillas Don't Blog site (posted sometime in 2015) that showed the 1980s remodel of Disneyland's Fantasyland. One of the dark rides (don't remember which) had its facade completely stripped away revealing that the ride building was just a typical corrugated steel barn type of structure; something you would store your tractor in.

^ Thanks JP! I actually will possibly make a video for this because its really a detailed and long ride and I don't want you guys to miss out on that aspect of it! Also I want the sound to be old fashioned as well which is a challenge at times but I have a few ideas. Yeah that is a important aspect of the darkride that is important is realism, how it looks from the behind. A lot of darkrides are just a wooden shell frame, or a steel corrugated bldg, canvas tied to sheet metal and other applications. And of course you need emergency exits and short cut doors with in the ride. Yeah some good deals on condos for sure! Get them while they last!

But then, when its all completed, voila! Magic!

^ Thanks JB, glad you are excited! I am thrilled about how this turned out, and it is realized better then what this ride looked like back in RCT3. Yeah its crazy how well you can hide the ordinary and make it feel and look special and epic.

Believe it or not as a 5 or 6 year old kid I used to draw amusement parks and darkrides, and would pay attention to small details. Like what does the back of a darkride look like? I used to be able to tell how long the ride would be or if it went upstairs by looking at the back before I even see the facade. Same with coasters, I used to draw layouts ect.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

I hope you guys enjoy this day (If you partake in it.) I'll be dressing up as Michael Myers and scaring the kids, its been a tradition for many years so far.

1965 Winter Construction Update

Continued from last update...

^ Looking north we see the new pier, and it is a amusement pier! I also noticed a towering radio mast; apparently a new radio station is broadcasting called 96.5 The Ocean Beat.

^ Obviously I can't get in but there is a flurry of activity going on, preparations for next month's grand opening...

^ The pier isn't afraid to broadcast itself. It looks like this is called Seaside Pier; a fancy sign I would say.

^ A quick glance and I see a giant slide called Riptide, and a few other interesting amusements.

^ Walking along the pier; what is this? It looks like a steel rollercoaster! Very compact and small, but looking thrilling! The pier so far looks off to a good start in terms of some headliner rides.

^ I also noticed a Zipper ride; I heard about this contraction with caged cars from a friend in the industry it is intense. So far I counted 5 rides, compared to 15 over at Pirate Reef Pier but with less rides they have some unique offers!

Alright guys time to head back home; the next time I come back it will be opening day! See you guys then!

It's great to see a Toboggan rollercoaster ride. Just about every State and County fair had them back in the late 1960s to '80s. There wasn't much to them but they were exciting to look at. :)  The new pier park looks like it'll be fun; I think I see a Paratrooper ride (and it's one that has the hydraulic up & down lift.)

Those Toboggan coasters always freaked me out just looking at them when I was a kid.  They looked so rickety.  I have never ridden one.  The new pier is looking great!!!

^ Thanks! It is a non functional ride due to a straight track portion with no chain life unfortunately. But it looks pretty haha. I remember one I tried to make in RCT3 back in 2005 and it was horrible! It was one of the first pier parks I did and I had it featured.

Those Toboggan coasters always freaked me out just looking at them when I was a kid.  They looked so rickety.  I have never ridden one.  The new pier is looking great!!!

^ Thanks! I rode one as my first big boy coaster in 2003 with my dad at Trimpers Rides in Ocean City MD, they got rid of it back in 2010 though. It was a painful back breaking ride when you hit those hills at the bottom. It didn't help that there was no seat or restraints really. Its almost as if they took the Zipper cart and put wheels on it!

1965 OPENING DAY:

It is that time again! The smell of sea salt, sea birds and I see rides! Laughter and banter can be heard as we headed onto the boards. I couldn't wait to check out the new pier and the new rides! Parking was actually pretty crowded, you could blame the new condos and more boardwalk shops added. But it is for the best as it is the gas that these piers require! I couldn't help but notice a few billboards advertising Pirate Reef Pier, and the new Mine Ride! I bet it will live up to expectations!

^ The skyline is active, and I can hear the excitement of riders from afar...

^ It was starting to get crowded, we went in right after opening at 11AM.

^ The Pirate Ship K.E.N. stands proud, still as popular as ever with the kids. One of the best funhouses on the New Jersey Coast for sure...

^ Looking behind you can see how much the boardwalk has changed in 3 years; progress...

^ Silver Bullet was a fun ride as always. The Boardwalk Café is a happening place, we had some lunch there. The crab fries are to die for! Try them in the Seagull syrup!

^ The Meteor opened pretty late, a few test runs but now it is time to ride it!

…….More soon...…….

Crab fries actually sounds good, and now I'm kind of hungry...

I'm liking all that pathwork that you've laid out on the beach...  will there be attractions down there too?

I'll just chime in and help JB a bit...  [whispers] mine ride, mine ride mine ride...  :P

^ Yeah now I made myself hungry as well! The path work was meant to have people on the beach to give off that scene of a live beach but no one wants to go and get sandy and I don't blame them haha. Okay some fan faire!

Opening Day: Part 2

We continue on with the sights and sounds on Pirate Reef Pier where there is plenty of fun to be had!

^ The sky diver is new this year and is adding some thrill on the pier! So far it is bringing in the crowds!

^ The Monster is also a new addition, something fun for the families! Here at the pier there is a balanced selection of rides for all age groups!

^ Looking behind at the late afternoon skies.

^ I can see the new Mine Ride attraction up in the distance!

^ A man is about to get eaten by that croc!

More soon.... And a surprise you don't want to miss in the upcoming updates...  ;)

That mountain in the background of the first shot reminds me of Sugarloaf in Rio de Janeiro. (sort of a random comment, huh?). The peeps really like your park, judging from the crowd in the 'late afternoon' shot. And I like how the angled support beams in the Mine Ride are set into the rock, like they're really supporting something. Speaking of support- That one cactus floating on the side of the Mine Ride rock looks like it need a little. ;)  Although, I suppose that's the sort of theming one might see in a pier park like this. I mean, if yer gonna have Stegosaurs, lions, and giant scorpions in Jungle Land; then why not floating cacti? :P

Opening Day: Part 2

As we begin to get to the back of the park we discover more!

^ The Scrambler was moved back on the new deck addition of the pier.

^ Enter Mine Ride! This years newest and boldest attraction to quench thrill seekers and the adventurers at heart! Boasting 3 drops through a desert and a mine, will you be able to solve the mysteries of the lost miners searching for a golden nugget?

^ You begin in an old western town before you set your sites to the Golden Valley where other prospectors hope to find gold!

^ The front is the money shot as you can see the mine carts coming in and out of the mountain.

^ The top is interesting as it is outside, a lot of western scenes.

^ A camp site can be seen at the top as well.

Now its your turn to check out the ride! And more!   :) Will you solve the mystery?

https://youtu.be/VXjKAxyoq1U (https://youtu.be/VXjKAxyoq1U)

Creators Note: I actually have been working on this ride since last year believe it or not when this park wasn't active. I would pick at it and dabble with it, eventually I finished and couldn't wait to show it off. If anyone remembers the Mine Ride from RCT3 Pirate Reef, there was a lot of space limitations, and it had a smaller blue print. It was very compact, and shorter. This version is really the true vision of how I forsee the ride. Can anyone figure out the inspiration? Eventually I will post some inspiration pictures one of these months and you guys will totally get it! So I hope you guys enjoy the ride, there are some things I actually fixed after I made the video, so I am aware of a few issues here and there. Also this really fits my obsession with fitting things and rides into small spaces and making it work haha.

That was a really fun ride. It reminds me a little of the Mine Train ride at Knott's Berry Farm, but with more thrills. And I like the western town facade (and my estate :P).
Excellent job.

Hey, you made a video!  And it's the mine train!  And it turned out really well!

That's a great ride... felt very real-life realistic, and it amazed me how long it was given the small footprint you have to work with in a pier environment.  Great use of lighting, (I liked the siren effect at the beginning), and when the lights themselves were visible they looked like they belonged there.  The theming throughout kept my interest, and the facade is again very real-life 2D realistic for an attraction like this.  I don't think I've ever used the swinging mine carts but this project had definetely opened my eyes to them.

But in much more important news...  I HAVE A SHED!  wooo hooo!!!!

What a great ride! :)  The façade looks even better than I had imagined. The western town reminds me of Disneyland's Rainbow Ridge (now extinct). As we enter the mine, I like the row of rickety support beams angled every-which-way (except straight). I love how the ride is a mix of slow and fast sections. Also a mix of genres; old west, rustic, and spooky. I enjoyed the spooky areas the best (and I think you enjoyed making the spooky areas the best ;)).

Lots of classic dark ride concepts here- the lights that come on as you enter the scene, the glow-in-the-dark bats, etc., the skeletons (gotta have skeletons!), and the soundtrack. Is that an actual dark ride soundtrack? As far as finding the gold nugget... not sure. I thought I saw something that looked like a gold nugget on top of the crate just before entering the spiral tunnel; but that could've been just about anything. :n00b:

Nice job on this, Plokoon.

^ Thanks! It was tough, I had to use the track with wheels because the mine carts would stall out. It was a tedious process but eventually it all worked out in the end!

That was a really fun ride. It reminds me a little of the Mine Train ride at Knott's Berry Farm, but with more thrills. And I like the western town facade (and my estate :P).

But in much more important news...  I HAVE A SHED!  wooo hooo!!!!

^ Yeah it is bigger then it looks, and I didn't cheat (By going under the pier, like some people used to go underground to hide a small facade.) Thank god for the track tools and the ability to make things close! Rct3 made it harder then it needed to be. This is like heaven for me when I make layouts haha. I'm glad it has that feel, that was what I was going for. I wanted regular mine carts that didn't tilt like that, but that was I had to use that looked like what I needed. Its a bit unrealistic for what kind of trains were available back then but I will let that slide haha. I do want to see what you make with them for sure!

Nice job on this, Plokoon.

^ Thanks! I made the corridor beams like that on purpose to make it disorienting and unsafe looking. They were a must for the mine theme, they are repeated when necessary. I didn't know about that Disney ride, I will have to check that out JB! I tried to stick with classic darkride effects, mainly Bill Tracy like. I few from the Mine Ride from RCT3 were adapted for this one, like the mine train coming towards you scene. That reminds me though, I forgot to add the falling barrels effect! I know I had that one in the old version. (I can always add haha.) The bats were an interesting one, I wanted just glowing red light dots on the wall that could blink, but that would do. I really tried to keep the story flowing, without randomness, I feel like I achieved it hopefully! I will admit the light timing was tedious, I built the effects going backwards from the bottom up (Because it would be hard to build when things are built in the way!) and so everytime I put a  trigger I would have to trace it through the whole layout, and some scenes had a couple of triggers. The soundtrack is a combination of different darkride sounds put together, I wanted it to feel real life. Like the echoed rooms as you enter.

I'd love to see the track layout of the Mine Ride.  It is so wonderfully compact.  I couldn't believe how long the ride was and just so jam-packed with amazing scenes and effects.  Just fantastic.

^ You asked and you will receive! Thats a lot coming from you, the dude who made a park sized Ghost Mine, with awesome ghost miners ect. I really could have used them in this haha.

^ Glad you like it Elch! It isn't functional, since I couldn't find a small track that had a vertical lift hill sadly.  :'(
Glad you like the rides as well! They are a passion for sure, they take quite awhile to make.

I love that so much.  Just like my notebooks!  Ha ha!

^ I would love to see your notebook drawings, believe it or not when I was 5 to 8 years old I used to draw amusement parks and darkrides from memory when I would go to the boardwalk, park or fairs. I would make the layout of the darkrides, how it would look from the front and back with realistic detail. It really explains why I'm good at these kind of things in a way.

I love seeing the behind the scenes thought process of putting ideas on paper before building them...  really wish I could do that.  I just throw stuff onto the screen and see what sticks :P

^ Thanks JP! Sometimes I do that approach, but usually I have an idea that I am trying to do. A lot of time I have inspiration but sometimes I wing it. Thanks man! Never rode those two actually, the ship was knocked down in 86, 6 years before I was born, and the Mine Ride's track now exists in Knoebels as the Black Diamond! I have yet to ride it, never went on its old version.

Opening Day Part 4

Finally a best of picture tour of the Mine Ride! So you can really study the details!

^ After finally climbing up the chain lift through a cavern you get to the top of the ride!

^ After the first drop and turn you go back in, but this time it is darker! The timbers give you the illusion of losing control. A Bill Tracy special for sure, as he built this year's attraction!

^ After a few scenes of horror, we almost crash into another mine cart!

^ The bat scene really makes riders uncompfurtable...

^ The wood work design in the ride is done in a way to throw you off as you speed on by. Most wood is from old pallets kept around the park...

^ We aren't alone apparently, this lost miner is only looking for help, hopefully those barrels don't tip over on us!

^ Open walls help riders to get to the emergency exits with ease if there is ever a need to evacuate.

Oh wow, that mine train is absolutely one of the coolest rides I've seen so far in Planet Coaster... Why you think? Well, when the train went up the hill I did not expect too much... it would be a short ride... Man was I wrong. Its simply amazing what you have put into this very compact design. A fantastic combination of themeing with a track layout that never feels boring and becomes surprisingly longer and longer - the longer that ride goes. This is it! Fantastic work! :)
And last but not least I love the western facade, it makes that ride so inviting! Amazing work!!!

^ Thanks so much Corkscrewloop! I appreciate your awesome compliment, I like how I felt like I tricked you guys into thinking it was short and it wasn't. Its all illusions really. The front façade rock is actually made up of tiny rock pieces, instead of large. That way It wouldn't waste space. That was a trick I used a lot actually. Glad you liked it!

The sun started setting and soon the lights of the boardwalk came roaring to life with flashes of bright yellows and reds. The crowds seemed to get even larger as I walked around to soak it all in...

^ Pirate Ship looking as menacing as ever; sounds of a fog horn and wind can be heard inviting nearby to dare take a trip inside the hallowed halls.

^ The Roll O Plane still with long lines, this ride will be a success this summer for sure!

^ After some pizza at a new joint called Patricia's Meat, home to some good meatballs from what I hear from others! It was satisfying!

^ And soon our next target … wayyyy down there.

^ Its actually further then you may think but Seaside Pier here we come!

^ Here at last, the sign is very well done. This will be a landmark spot for sure in time...

^ One thing that is different from Pirate Reef is the modern and flashier feel. A lot of lights! We will have to wait until the next part to check out Riptide!

Until then...

Some really nice nighttime shots, Plokoon. The part of the Seaside Pier sign I like best is the rounded corners on the roof, with the neon pinstripes and the red recessed lighting. And the carousel looks especially inviting all lit up; makes you wanna climb those stairs to the upper tier.

Loving that SP sign, and loving the lighting all round.  Exterior lighting is very time consuming and hard to get right, and I feel like you're doing that here.

^ Thanks JB, I'm glad you enjoy the night scenery! I loved how the sign came out as well, I messed with a few designs.

Glad you enjoyed the lighting; I wanted a contrast between old fashioned and the neon modern pier and I feel like I achieved it. The toboggan lighting took awhile to get right, but it works finally haha!

Opening Day Part 6

Continuing!

^ Looking south at the pier, the neat coaster is calling my name for sure!

^ But first, lets go on the slide. Some neat views from the top. A closer view of the Toboggan coaster!

^ And down we go!

^ The Paratrooper is quite the thrill, I have never seen a ride like this yet!

^ Lurking in the back is some bumper cars. So far a lot of different selections of rides on this pier versus Pirate Reef Pier.

^ I saved the best for last! Time to ride the Toboggan!

^ This is a neat rollercoaster because it is steel, and very compact. It also has a vertical lift! Going up the lift hill echos inside the circular chamber.

^ Finally we pop up at the top and circle around the tower downwards!

^ Oh yeah, here is another groundbreaking ride of the future: The Zipper! What a crazy ride this is! Be sure not to eat any Boardwalk Café crab fries with seagull sauce before riding!

^ Finally the night and long day is over, we have explored both piers and I must say the boardwalk is on fire! With the addition of classics and modern rides Atlantic City's future is bright! I really can't wait to head back next season and see how they will top this one! Stay tuned for more updates!

I like the views of the Toboggan, even though it isn't functional (I think you said that?). Was the interior shot taken horizontally? If I remember correctly, you said that PC doesn't have a vertical lift. Oh wait, the track going up the middle might not be an actual lift, just a section of vertical track? I think I confused everybody now. :-\  And today's secret word is "wackey". Hmm, I think the last secret word was 'western'. Not long after that we got to see the western-themed Mine Ride. Maybe we'll be seeing some sort of Wackey Shack soon?? Just guessing.

You went all out and built that slide the hard way; I always cheat and go with those curvy roof pieces.  Your way is better, especially since those roof pieces will probably never be recolorable.  :(

The zipper looks great against it's backdrop.  And now I have to go research toboggan rides because I think I have a park that needs one :P
