Title: Renee Feu Adventure Park - Africa...Harambe
Post by: wowmanrct on August 23, 2018, 07:38 AM
Well - here is my next adventure in PlanCo.
I'm going to try and use a park I created in RCT3 as the starting point. While I will switch a few things out...I will try and follow that old park layout as much as I can.

I'm also trying to decide if I will just some construction pictures, but mostly completed work (like I did with my Star Wars park), or if I will show work as is progresses...maybe even do some build videos???

Anyway - here is how my mind works.
I first draw a real rough draft of the whole park layout to start working with.

Here is it color coded - lands are inspired from the Indiana Jones movie locals

Purple - entry plaza and Port of Call. A central market place with shops and places to eat and get supplies for your adventure to exotic locals around the world. There may also be a few small flat rides here and a train station and boat station.

Light Green - Jungles of the World. Lush jungles with mystery and danger lurking around every bend. There will be a coaster and raft ride here as well a flat or two.

Light Purple - Venice. a quaint village area with waterways and shops  - not sure what this will be yet, but maybe a shopping district with a flat ride.

Pink - Area 51. The government has alien and mystery stuff here that you never know can happen if released- dark ride and maybe a coaster

Gray - Temple of Doom - Race through the caverns on a wild mine train coaster. This area may also have mystery caverns deep below.

Green - Germany. Castles and villages are the setting for Indy's latest adventures

Dark blue/green - not for sure yet, but maybe Hong Kong where there will be a night club and a car ride

yellow - Egypt - Beware of the mystery of the pyramids. Desert setting with a tracked ride and a coaster or two.

Tan - Africa. an extension with Egypt and a place where jungles and animals lurk in the shadows. There will be a water ride and other flats in this area.

The dark blue lines are general placement of the rivers that will hols a boat transport ride. black blocks are planned stations
The dark purple line is a train transport that also has black station locations.

No fair starting with a plan! :D

Anyway, I look forward to seeing this.  If it's only half as good as SWL, it'll still be awesome ;).  Are you taking suggestions for the "not sure yet" area?  There are a few places not already on your list.  Mediterranean islands (with our without U-boat bases), the Holy Land, the Andes, the Colorado Plateau (although Area 51 is already in the US SW), or even the big city university where Prof. Jones taught class.

Yes - I have a few open areas in case what I have planned grow a bit bigger than I think I need, but also some other areas.
I have the University (Harvard, even though I know thats not what the university was...I need to look it up) penciled in the upper corner along with Hong Kong. I also have The West penciled in for the ? area...like the beginning of the the third movie. I also have Tibet on an island, but I didn't mention that in my list. I'm also going to go through all my Young Indy TV show disks and see if maybe I can pull something ut of there. Lots of WWI stuff on that show. Africa/Paris/and maybe even a war battle zone land??? Hmmmm.

That is about how my plans look when I actually draw them out. Mind-mapping is a great strategy for anything. It provides a safety net that helps fight creators block. I cannot wait because the story-lining is looking great as well!

OK - Opinion time. I was working on this park...and I'm thinking of switching it up from a licensed entity (Indiana Jones) to more of a Planco branded park...say Renee Feu' Adventure Park. It will have most of the same planned ideas in the map, but with some slight twists where needed. It will have the same look and feel, only PlanCo based. What do you think?

Title: Re: Indiana Jones Adventure Park - A new start
Post by: JB on August 26, 2018, 07:53 PM
Well, seems to me that you would have a lot more success (and fun) making an Indy-ish park rather than attempting to stay true to the movies (or Disney rides). All theme park sims are lacking in some way or other; best to take advantage of what's available rather than trying to force it to fit a narrow (Indiana Jones) theme. That's my 2 cents anyway.

I say "Trust your instincts, Luke.  Turn off your targeting computer."  No disrespect to your awesome Star Wars park, or anybody else's parks inspired by or even recreated from real life stuff.  Those are quite hard to do well, as I'm finding out myself with Dixie Landin'.  However, I honestly prefer to see folks let their own imaginations flow unconstrained by trying to conform to something pre-existing.  This is mostly because I utterly lack imagination myself so regard exhibitions of imagination by other folks as magic shows ;).  But also, I get more ideas to steal that way :D.

So, I decided to switch away from Indy and make this park a female branded adventure park. It will still have all the same plans and very Indy influenced as far as rides, locations and sets, only branded with Renee instead. I will change the name of this thread to reflect this.

As guests pass through security and cross the bridge to adventure, they pass across the entry plaza. A place to meet friends and gather before you enter the park. This are is speckled with little scenery and garden areas that set the stage for the adventures to come. There are also planted berms around the edges to hind the parts of the park that will bend around the plaza area.

Here is the area from above.

I have been working on a house remodel project, so haven't had much PC time recently. I worked on the whole park layout a bit and here is what it is looking like right now. It will get modified as I start with the details.

the white line is the current proposed train track and stations
the blue line is one of the river boat transportation line and its stations
the green line is the second river boat transportation line and its stations

Title: Re: Renee' Feu Adventure Park - Entry Plaza
Post by: Bullethead on September 11, 2018, 11:26 AM
Looks like fun ;).

I see there's a bug with the river boats now that makes them useless as transport rides.  The boats don't stop at any but the 1st station.  I expect this will get fixed shortly so go ahead and build it as you want it, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work as you want to start with.

I hope this gets fixed as I need them to be transports for this to work. I see that the trains have the same issues.
Anyway - trying my part at the 3D image...here is one of the security area.

^Success! (It's about time :mad:up:) The pic turned out really well. The foreground objects (palm tree & lamp post) always make these 3D images especially nice. I like how the security checkpoints trail away from the camera. And how the background palms stand out from the distant hills. Hmm, I just noticed that the 2 halves of your image aren't the same width (left is narrower). How'd that happen? No biggie, but that part of the image won't be in 3D. Still, I like how you arranged the shot to include as many layers as you could. (I would include another *thumbs up* smiley but I already used up my quota. :P)

I really like that façade!  As you might have noticed in the recent contest, I fell in love with the temple parts ;)

I'm just thinking ahead here, but given that you'll have both a tropical jungle area and a Temple of Doom area, are you going to make a rapid transition to some other theme inside the gate so as not to do my thing and overdo a particular theme? :D

I meant, is the main plaza just inside the gate going to be like whatever city Renée lives in, as the base from which she sets out on her adventures?

BTW, I believe the façade and thread title have typos.  I think it's "Renée", not Reneé"  :)

Oh great - now I have to start over. Thanks for pointing out my grammatical errors. Inside the gate is going to be a "port of call" area...which will be a mashup of various styles and things...kind of like a hustling market/central hub to the adventures that await you.

A little bit of building behind the scenes. I had placed the train track that will circle the park...but it was too close to this plaza area and to high...so I pushed it back and lowered as low as I could go before it conflicted with the path...had issues making it lower  as when ever I removed the path I couldn't get is back the way I wanted it. So, decided this height was good and would work. There will be station built on the raised track real soon.

Title: Re: Renee Feu Adventure Park - Entry Plaza
Post by: Bullethead on September 30, 2018, 06:29 PM
In my experience, tracks and paths follow different rules.  Track limitations can be turned off (partially) but not path limitations.  The upshot is the following 3 bullet points:

* a station (but not the rest of the track) must have at least 4m clearance above or below any existing path.
* a path must have at least 4m clearance above or below any existing track, and 4m below and 8m above an existing station.
* a track (not the station, just the track) can be placed at any elevation relative to an existing path.

So, if you want tracks making level crossings with paths, or running along main street paths at ground level, you have to make the paths first.  If you also want the station at the same ground-level elevation as the track and paths, you have to leave a space in the path network for the station, so you can put it at ground level.  If you have to change a path at the same elevation as a track, you have to delete the track first, then change the path, then rebuild the track there.

Note that stations have a flat surface bottom that's 2m below the level of the platform.  It's this flat bottom that must be 4m above any existing ground-level path, so the track in the station is 6m above the path.

I've got to start doing plaza decorations like that compass.  You always do it and it always looks great.

Did you, however, verify that the directions are accurate?  Or inaccurate.  After all, if peeps can't find their way back out, you might make more money off them :)

Good point. I think its wrong. I was setting it up as the entrance faces north, but the way the sun moves in game, compared to the park, does not look correct. Now this is going to bug me throughout the build. Thanks a lot buddy!

Post by: Bullethead on October 11, 2018, 02:36 PM
Hehehe, just doing my job ;).

It's easy to figure out the directions.  Just put a vertical post somewhere, set the time to 1200 or 1300, and see where the shadow is.  That way is north.  1300 usually aligns closer to the map's world axes, I guess due to daylight savings being in effect in the summer when parks are open :)

That building and the way the train passes by look perfect.

In the 1st shot, I saw some stuff on the back porch of the building and immediately assumed it was a BBQ for the staff to make lunch with.  But then I saw it was a spare life preserver.  Maybe you should put a BBQ there, though ;)

THX guys. I need to redo the window shutters. I used a tv monitor (as a billboard originally) but they are lit up at night and I didn't really like that...but I see we have new shutters in the new DLC, so I will swap those out as soon as I get a chance.

Here you can see this building at night with the glowing shutters

That's quite a posh set-up.  In my experience, a "guest relations" building has only been about buying season tickets, reserving the park for large parties, and lost-and-found ;)

After some feedback, I changed this building to now be called the Adventurer's Club, instead of the Guest Relations building.
Also, the shutters have been updated from being tv monitors (acting like a billboard), to using the new in game shutters, so that they do not light up at night.

Damn, Wowman, I know you build way ahead of what you show but that's still a huge amount of stuff for a new project :).  I really like where this is going already and also the styling you're putting into it.  The overall layout and the stuff you're going to scatter around it are all pregnant with pending awesomeness.  I really look forward to seeing this get fleshed out.

Remind me not to book a flight to this park, though.  I think I'll take the bus instead, given the number of crashed aircraft around the place making me think the local airlines aren't totally safe :D.  I love how you used the plane engine as a ceiling fan in the Adventurers' Club.  Hadn't noticed that from the stills.  But that makes me ask, why is the prop still turning on the crashed biplane in the entry plaza?  Wouldn't it be more appropriate for that prop to be either still (as like the plane ran out of fuel) or bent (as in still running when it hit the ground due to crashing for some other reason, such as bad weather) ?

I think I spotted the familiar silhouette of a Nepali 5-tiered pagoda in the Port of Call area.  I'm very flattered you like it :).  But please feel free to make it your own with structural and color changes.  I envision all my blueprints as mere starting points for artistic innovation.

Yep - lots of downed transportation in the jungles and such.

Here is another drawing of a plan in my head for the Port of Call area. lots of random placed buildings and paths. This area is kind of the main street of this park, but very unstructured. Want it have have the feel of a bustling port of sorts.

And as I start to place stuff...I also circled the main areas of where stuff will go and you can kind of see how it starts to follows my chicken scratch.

I'm really building this area out slow, so I will post photos as I make progress in each smaller group of buildings. (life and work have been busy. remodeling the master bath and its been dragging on for months now...almost done and I can spend more time playing this game for fun).

As I mentioned above, most all this land will be blueprint imports from the workshop. I will give credit the best I can as I tried to keep track of everything, but there is a lot, so please forgive me and let me know if you see some of your work and I didn't call you out.

First is Confisco Grille Restaurant by Universal802. Great work on this building and I had to use it. I did embellish a little by adding some extra plantings and an outside eating area.
I left the name as is and see this as the main more upscale restaurant in the Port of Call area.

I also added a pathway behind the building that traverses along the river

This area is a couple hut like buildings with a market area in front of them.
Used blueprints from the following that were modified slightly to get them to fit and added a few vending machines as well.:

I like it! I can see an inspiration from Islands Of Adventure, and in some instances Adventureland. Great combination of ideas present in other parks and excellent originality.

THX again to all that are enjoying my playtime.

Just to give you some perspective...everything I have covered in detail so far in this land is in this circled in this original overhead shot of this land as I started building it.

Moving onto the next section of the Port of Call. This building was pulled from the workshop from my good buddy Sdanwolf's Mad Scientist's Garage. I did make some modifications to it to fit more with my park and called it the Itchy Ape Garage. It hold a shop on the side and a few vending machines inside. You cam also see the directions sign that I will placing throughout the park to help guest (virtually) stay on track and not get lost.

On the back side of this group of buildings i used Corner shops - Arabian- Workers Village Stores by TheGreenBear. Again, changed it up a bit to fit in in better. I also added a covered corridor between the two buildings that houses a bathroom. I will have better pics of that later.

Hehehe, "Itchy Ape" :D

I recall seeing Sdanwolf's garage.  You really found a good home for it.

BTW, in case you didn't know, "feu" (fire) and "fou" (crazy) are pronounced the same in French, so naturally there are a lot of puns based on this.  Ever since Renée Feu got into the game, I've called her "Renée Fou".  So this park has had me chuckling every time I read the thread title :).  Maybe you could work that into the park somehow?

I like the lighting very much.  I'm sure Grrt is thinking, "but you didn't light up the whole place and there are big shadowy spots".  But this is some pieced-together building in a 3rd World country that's lucky to have electricity at all, so it SHOULD have dark spots ;)
Title: Re: Renee Feu Adventure Park - Port of Call
Post by: wowmanrct on December 13, 2018, 08:55 PM
I have to say...after just being at Disney again, I was paying extra attention to lighting in every park this time around. And while there is a lot of accents and specific themes going on...I really noticed this time around how dark the parks (paths) actually are at night. If it weren't for people wearing light up Christmas light necklaces...I would have head-on collided many times with people. As many times as I were in parks at night before, never really noticed this before this time until I really paid attention to it specifically. So, I may start to change my lighting schemes as I progress along in my parks.

Sooo... the upshot is- simulated themeparks have better lighting than real parks? Who knew.

I've noticed the same thing on my last visit to the Disneyland Resort. Main Street is nice and bright, but some of the other lands are hardly lit up at all. I kept thinking, "they need to add more lamp posts here so the paths are bright like mine are in Planet Coaster." :P

I like that last shot best. If you're standing where the camera is and you look down the street, you see all the lanterns and interesting buildings- it draws you in. Makes you want to walk over there and see what it's all about.

Is there some significance to the giant floating pumpkin next to the Observatory restaurant? :P

its a small hot air balloon that was part of the blueprint. I was going to swap it out with the in game one, but it was just too larger for this area, so I left it as is and thought it worked ok. It looks better from other angles.

I was also going to connect the different building along this path more, but in the end decided it was better to allow the views of the river between them as this part is more like a street along the river. I also tried flipping the buildings so the main walk was along the water, but I didn't like the way the building felt more separated from the rest of the area when I did that.

Wowman, you sell your own Moorish building short here ;).

Anyway, I was curious about that "flying pumpkin" from earlier pics and think it works in fine as-is.  As for lines of sight across the "bayou" (I live next to the bottom end of The (Mississippi) River where it's nearly 1 mile wide even when not in flood stage so anything smaller is a bayou/creek to me), I see all kinds of interesting things in the background there and in the previous series of pics, too.

Some of those background buildings you see are just placeholders of stuff I downloaded from the workshop and might be placed in the general area you see them...or not used in the end. Thats how I plan to place what I want to use so I don't forget I downloaded them by the time I get to that section of the park.

Grrt would hate how bright that pagoda is.  Hell, I do, too, as it make the ugly more prominent.  But the real pagodas of Kathmandu are heavily illuminated like that (tourist attractions, after all) so I did the same.

BTW, what are you using the building for?  You can put a shop or 2 inside.

I would need to see a wider context to understand if the brightness is warranted. :P

Though my main gripe is that it feels a bit flattened out in color. I'd give the roofing a much more saturate red to help the edges and shape of it jump out better.

As to the ride, it looks quite good but maybe have some of the trees leaning over and/or down?  Palm trees tend to stay upright as they evolved to live through hurricanes but there's usually other kinds of trees, too, and they tend to fall.

Love all the debris and destruction scattered around. Neat idea adding water to that scrambler ride- sorta like a waterspout or maelstrom.

Wow! Very cool!

Kennywood actually did a very similar flat ride to water ride conversion with their former King Kahuna top spin ride. Through the ride, they had fountains in front of it that shot up onto the riders.

Yeah, that's true about parks.  When I built the pagoda, though, I was trying to match the night views of Kathmandu.  The Nepalis really light that place up with pole-mounted floodlights all over the squares and big lights on the buildings themselves. (https://thegreathimalayas.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/basantapur-21.jpg).  So that pagoda really sticks out in your park due to a culture clash :).  I wouldn't mind at all if you toned down its lights to match its surroundings if you think that would look better.  After all, your park isn't Kathmandu.

Anyway, I really like this whole area of the park and its details.  In that last pic, the pier being all zig-zagged from storm surge is a great touch ;)

Hehehe, well, happy coincidence it's right behind the hurricane ride.  Seriously, if piers aren't totally washed away, they end up all zig-zag like that due to the storm surge moving various pilings different amounts.  Like this:  https://image.advance.net/home/adv-media/width620/img/lehigh_valley_live_-_new_jersey_lvl-nj_sharing_national_desk/photo/2018/09/13/tropical-weather-north-carolina-daee2c27c5aaf5bb.jpg

Ha. Funny thing is - I obsess over making sure most all surfaces are covered with something. The way I see it is in real life there is no just blank ground in these environments. there is always something, plants, rocks, stuff...not just blank ground. Its almost scary to me sometimes when I see a spot in the game somewhere that hasn't been attended too and it bothers the crap out of me.

I'm the same way.  I can't stand open, monochrome ground.  Even if I have a large, open lawn, I at least airbrush it slightly with different textures over large and small spots just to break up the monotony.  Besides, there's always ant nests, inexplicable dead spots, etc.  If I plan to bury the ground under rocks and bush, then I airbrush it more thoroughly first.  And I really like to use lots of rocks and bushes.  I figure if I put enough of them, that's all people will see and they won't notice my crappy buildings :D

That last pic looks like the kind of image you would see on a 3,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. The lighting, the colors, the details, the overall busy-ness; yep, looks like a jigsaw puzzle to me. Of course, if it was a puzzle, BH's "hideous" pagoda would be the first thing pieced together, because it's the most eye-catching feature. Followed next by the Hurricane/Scrambler because of its bright blue lighting. I really like this area.

Yeah.  That's exactly why it's hideous.  Even if its construction met the lowest rung of the quality standards generally expected at SGW, it's just too obvious a target.  It's an ideal reference point for shelling or bombing anything within several miles of it and, as it's the tallest thing in area, the enemy would use it as an observation post so it needs to be flattened on its own merits (but only after marking its location so it can still serve as a reference point after its destruction).   :euro:

Sorry, I'm having flashbacks.  Desert Storm started 28 years ago yesterday.  But old habits are hard to shake.

Those postcards look great, except for the typo in the 2nd one.

It's Renée, not Renee' :).  The accent is over the 2nd e, not behind the 3rd.  Use the Character Map app in Windows to get the proper spelling.  You can even past those characters into PC signs, like here:  {Renée Feu (Fire) is yours, Renée Fou (Crazy) is mine ;) }

In game the accent mark, whatever it is called is officially over the last 'e' in Renee. I know technically the tick is after the 'e', but that was the limitations in the font I was using.
Title: Re: Renee Feu Adventure Park - Port of Call
Post by: Bullethead on January 22, 2019, 08:29 AM
The font doesn't matter, only the character code does.  It works like this (unless you have a European keyboard):

1.  ALT-TAB to deskop

2.  Open the Windows app called Character Map.  This brings up a grid display of all the characters in the world, pages and pages of them.  But the common  ones like vowels with accents (in both directions), hats, and tildes are all at the top of the list and visible when you open the app.

3.  Find the character you need on this grid, for example, the e with the accent going up to the right, and click on it.

4.  Hit the Select button to make this character appear in the box at the bottom of Character Map.

5.  Drag your cursor over this character in the box to highlight it, then hit CTRL-C or the Copy button, either works.

6.  ALT-TAB back into PC (if making a sign) or this forum (if making a post) or your graphics app (if making a postcard).  Put the cursor in the text box there where you need the special character and hit CTRL-V.  The character you selected in Character Map will magically appear at the cursor location :).

Ťĥãť ïş ħŏŵ Ī đíď ţħĩŝ

As to the spelling of "Renée", that's the feminine form of Rene and it means "re-born" or "born again".  The accent goes OVER the 2nd "e", using this character:  é.  It doesn't go between the 2nd and 3rd, or at the end (that would make it an apostrophe, not an accent), and it doesn't go over the 3rd, either (which would misspell the word).

Dirt!  Hide the stumps with bushes and benches.  But I really thought there was a version of natural paths without them, or you could make them without by disabling curbs on ground paths.

I like the dirt better as well. It's more fitting for an African village setting. Stone would be more practical for a theme park, but we don't always have to be realistic, do we. (I seem to recall seeing rollercoasters and flat rides built next to and into erupting volcanos.) ;)

Moving to the last section of the Port of Call.
Workshop items used in this area are:
Sdanwolf's Dutch Trading Company by Sdanwolf
Boat station - adventure rivier by sebastiaan1975
Train car building - Wildlife Express Train Car by Sdanwolf

This area has a larger plaza that leads to a bridge to the SE Asia part of the park. Also walk past the pod of buildings for some shopping and onto the South America part of the park.

You really have a knack for arranging cool, highly detailed, and very interesting street scenes.  They always make want to go there and see the sights.  I also really like your street lamps.

But I'm worried about how to get to this park.  There are wrecked aircraft all over, wrecked boats, and I'm sure there'll be wrecked vehicles eventually.  So I hope you're building it within walking distance of my house :)

They are actually from the workshop. part of the The Great Outdoor Lighting Pack made by BBordewyk. I will look up the specific pieces later, but it is the miner/train light as the light, a half globe as the upper dome, some sort of bowl for the lower dome and a music note for the arm that connects up to the post.

yes - I have 600 guest moving around as I build just to continually test stuff like this. Like BH has detailed extensively, I have both types of guests. Some ride to ride, but other do get off to get on other rides I placed in temporary places. Same with the train and chair lift. I think I'm getting a pretty good mix overall. I expect it would work a bit better if I had more at the other stations farther back in the park, but right now I don't.

I typically build with a 600 guest max so at least I can still see how they interact. When I do videos and stuff later I crank them up so the park actually looks like its being used.

Ah, that's cool.  IIRC from your map, your overall park layout is well-suited to such an arrangement.  Lacking your imagination, I tend to make 2 transport rides circling the park in opposite directions at different radii from the center.

yes - I have 600 guest moving around as I build just to continually test stuff like this.

I'm beginning to suspect that what Frontier did was pick some arbitrary ride prestige value, which appears to be approximately 600, to be the somewhat fuzzy boundary between riders who want transport and riders who want entertainment.  IOW, if the ride is less than his value, then peeps assume it's just a boring, purely transport ride so you get few entertainment riders, but if it's more than this value, peeps assume it's an entertainment ride so are less likely to ride it for transport even if it's really cheap, but are drawn to it for entertainment like moths to a flame.

The thing to note here is that 600 prestige is chump change.  Only the tamest (as in fear < 3.0) flats can't reach that number at all, only slightly less lame flats can get there with just a bit of work, and everything else far surpasses that number without even trying.  Any transport ride worthy of the name traverses at least 1/2 your map so, unless you put it in a wide, ugly right-of-way where federal, state, and/or local ordinances prohibit anything more than grass (or it's a boat far from shore), it will pass within 12m, without trying, of enough trees, bushes, and rocks, let alone buildings, fountains, fireworks shows, and animatronic dinosaurs fighting while a volcano erupts in the background, to exceed the very low prestige value of 600.

The implication is that as you progress in building a park, what was once a functional transport ride when you only had like 1/8 or so of the map fully developed will ultimately morph into an entertainment-only ride as you add scenery along its track, so that it's NOT in a wide, ugly right-of-way.  And when that happens, virtually every peep will be on for a round trip.  And if you put a station near the park entrance, this highly attractive, family-friendly ride will be the destination of choice of most peeps entering the park, so that nobody will be able to board at any of the other stations despite waiting in the queue for eons.

The only transport ride that isn't hopelessly broken without looking stupid is the chair lift.  These are supposed to be way up high and, when run on high, don't get the prestige benefit from the scenery they pass over, so remain boring enough to be seen only as transport.  You can run everything else up high, too, but it will look stupid.

if you can make any sense of this spaghetti mess.
here is how the current transport rides support my park.
-Gold is the train, pretty much around the perimeter
-orange boat is around the outside circle of waterways
-green boat is a bit of a U supplying the front of the park
-blue is boats in a small circle in the back of the park
- purple is current chair lift (I will be adding more)

Title: Re: Renee Feu Adventure Park - Port of Call
Post by: Bullethead on February 01, 2019, 06:46 PM
It all looks great in how intricately you've arranged everything, keeping the clutter level on the cool side--enough to invite exploration, but not so much that it looks dangerous to anybody who's life experiences have NOT made them alert for adverse tactical situations :)

It also raises a philosophical question about scenery design in general, regarding wrecked examples of the vehicles the customers will be riding in.  My own preference for things like jungle boats is to have the station area show the hazards along the way with taxidermied examples of the larger appetites in the river, plus some native weaponry and some broken oars or life preservers with bite marks on them.  This gives the riders the impression that there will be excitement but the hazards can be overcome with a modicum of daring, so as to lure them into a false sense of security.  But then the narration is that a boat has gone missing so the riders are out of rescue its crew.  It's only later in the ride, around the bend from the station, at the height of the crisis with the local wildlife and/or cannibal tribe, that riders see the wrecked boat just like their own, with animatronic victims drowning in whirlpools, being eaten by cocodries, and/or shot full of poison arrows.  This shatters their sense of security and makes them feel grateful to have survived to the end of the ride.

Alternatively, you can show the wrecked boat at the station.  To me, OT1H this might make potential riders say "Nope  The summer-hire kids driving these boats are too stoned to do so safely."  But OTOH, some might see that as a lure and go for it expecting more excitement than the ride might actually offer.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

nice take on all this, but in this case the boat is not wrecked, but more in a dry dock being worked on. B)

Not sure what that rusty target-looking thing is on the left wall in the first pic. Whatever it is, it adds to the overall atmosphere of the queue. :)  I see you've got all the names of Disney's Jungle Cruise boats on the wall there. Do the Adventure Boats have the same names? I like how you used those dangling vines as a partition.

You're much further along on this than I had realized.  Is this a recently taken video?  Because that's not really a bad framerate considering all you have going on here.

It's easy to forget while watching this that we don't technically have much building and scenery pieces for this theme, but you've taken what little was available and made it go a very long way.  You also excelled at building up everything on both sides of this path just high enough to hide what's behind them but not unrealistically high.   A walkthrough like this really makes me feel like this place exists.

I really liked the walk along that narrow exterior path, kind of like a scenic backstage area that's open to the public.  That's something I really want to steal.

THX RCT-D

THX again guys!

We will now move away from the Port of Call and head towards our first adventures. We head to the dangers of Africa.
This land will really be several smaller sections that we will look at individually.
First we will have Harambe, where you can explore the village, catch a sky ride to other parks of the world, ride through the crocodile infested waterways, or take a spin on some more gentle rides.

We will then explore the Congo where you can come face to face with great apes and take a ride over Gorilla Mist Falls.

Savanna Island is next where exciting thrills can be found, great eats and wondrous animals.  You can also catch a boat ride on Adventure River to other parts of the world.

First let's look at a quick drawing of what my mind came up with to inspire this land. Not much there, except notes that there would be a train station, a village and a flat ride in the village. Also mention of a crocodile log flume ride.

Here is a early build photo. Just a few buildings placed, and the main rides are also built, but very little detail has been worked on yet.

Savanna Island in its very early stages as well. We will explore this island in much more detail later on.

Here is a different shot of the Croc Creek ride. The queue and surrounding area is completed, but all the detailing around the ride itself still needs to be done.

Title: Re: Renee Feu Adventure Park - Africa...Harambe
Post by: wowmanrct on March 03, 2019, 02:17 PM
Africa will be made up of 4 different areas.

The orange will be Harambe Village. I have this area about 2/3 completed and will start to share photos of this area soon.

The yellow Congo section will be next. I have actually started placement of some rides and paths here to make sure they fit in with Harambe correctly. This will be a dead end area and guests will need to return back through Harambe, or catch the train to Egypt.

The will be the blue section which is the Savannah Island...I know kind of contradicts itself, but I'm going with it for now as that is what it is.

The green area will be Egypt, but that will be a mega land that will end up standing on its own. I may not work on the area until much later as I'm thinking of jumping over to South America after I complete the 3 sub-Africa sections.

Here is the Harambe section from above (in its current state)

Here is what the Congo is looking like. It will have a dive coaster as the main draw that will dive down a set of waterfalls. At the top section of the ride, it will slowly pass through gorilla and chimp exhibits. The will also be a small street and faux and real balloon rides.

The Savannah area will have a high octane flat ride, restaurants and shops and animal viewing areas.

Savannah Island seems like a pretty good name/concept to me. During the rainy season, the dry rivers and lakebeds fill up with water (for a while, anyway). I would imagine that there quite a few islands on the savannah during this time. :)

The overheads confirm that this park is much larger (and you're much further along with building it) than I thought.  And while I liked Star Wars, the layout here feels much more realistic and natural.
Title: Re: Renee Feu Adventure Park - Africa...Harambe
Post by: wowmanrct on March 05, 2019, 05:54 AM
Thanks guys. I'm having fun with this park (except for the terribly slow menu load times that damper the speed of building. Sometimes I forget what I was trying to access because it takes so long and I walk away from my desk while waiting).

Here are the two main entrance arches to this area from the Port of Call. Yes, technically I know Harambe is part of Africa, so I may have to change the one sign at some point. We will focus right now on the right side and explore the Harambe Village area in detail. (the other side goes to the bridge for the Savannah section of this land).

After passing under the entry arch, you cross a bridge over the Adventure Express track.

Looking over the left side of the bridge you can see where the train passes through this land and also the station for the chair lift.

These are great shots.

Your color choices on the adventure walls under the bridge really stood out for me.  And I also like the way the chairlift fits naturally in the landscape like it belongs there (doesn't feel like civilization taking over, if that makes sense)

Your Africa and Harambe signs...  custom parts or billboard?  If it's made from the shapes that's even more impressive, because I like the font and it seems pretty small and hard to do.

As we take a closer look through the Africa area I want to pint out once again that I used a lot of blueprints and TMT items...so many that its almost impossible for me to keep track of them all, but here are a few of the more major TMT contributors that I have used in this land:

Not sure why, the the queue kind of winds around some oil operations.

The middle pic, showing the end of the chairlift structure, is my favorite. Something about the building materials, the slanted poles, the arches; combined with that background- really makes for an interesting and beautiful screenshot.

In the next pic, you've got a gap in the slanted pole. And you thoughtfully placed it close-up and near the center for the whole world to see. :P

Those are a disassembled light from Brandon's Outdoor Lighting set. I have been using this light (on a post) from his set all throughout this park. I just removed the post and added the cables as needed to hold the light parts over the paths.

That is one fat croc in the first pic! Looks like he's been eating something (or someone) on a regular basis. Echoing Fisherman, I love how the winding queue passes in and out of shade and sunlight. And how the canopies are staggered about at different angles. The queue entrance (ticket taker) looks very Arfican-y as well.

Glad everyone is enjoying what I do when I just pass my time playing around. Having fun with this park.

Here is the load station for Croc Creek. I built this from scratch and it is on the workshop if you want to use it for your parks. The roof is made of billboards and I used a thatch photo I found online. Let me know if you need this specific one and I can post it out there.

I like how some of the support posts are at wonky angles. Somehow they add another level of realism to the scene.

I only let 500-600 in while I build just to make sure all the rides and paths are working correctly.

Splashdown includes a few water cannons that blast you and a croc that lunges up out of the water.

Impressive as always, and I'm always astounded by your method of using billboards as paths.  My questions are these:  Where do you find the images as I imagine "seamless" is critical for it to work.  Also, do you think that many billboards affects framerate?  So many other things are affecting framerate these days that it probably doesn't matter much anymore, but I'm just curious so you're using so many of them.

I search the internet, or take my own photos from Disney parks (ground, walls, etc.). The key is to look for non-repeatable patterns or large swings in lighting and color as those show up more when placed next to each other. But, even with that, a trick I learned is to flip the billboard around...so light on one end, dark on the other...don't place the next board the same way, but to flip it so dark is against dark. I get lucky and it works out a lot. If not I try to hide it with path borders/breaks, or with something else. If you were to look close enough you can see all the imperfections, but overall the look usually come out being OK.

FPS - I have so much crap in my parks, I couldn't even tell you what hurts it more than others. Unless its day 1 start up of a new project...I have learned to deal with a 5-7 FPS no matter what I do in this game. :D

Really nice pics, as usual. The meerkat enclosure looks very realistic. Plenty of hills for the critters to keep watch from, lots of places for burrowing. Everything I know about meerkats I learned from shyguy's San Diego Zoo posts in the Turnstile Tribune. ;)

About the green cross symbol (white cross with a green background): I did a few seconds of googling and discovered that it means the same as the red cross symbol; it just means First-Aid. The marijuana sign is a green cross with a white background. Who knew?

Re: the poll-  I voted for South America. When I'm building my own parks I'll spend a lot of time on one ride or area. Afterwards, I feel the need to work on a differently themed ride, to cleanse the palate so to speak. It keeps my creative juices flowing. That said, Harambe didn't take all that long to build. Maybe you're still in an 'Africa' mood. If so, then on to Egypt! If you're still having big problems with the game then maybe something smaller, like the Nepal area, is the way to go. Bottom line: It's up to you! Work on whichever area you feel like the most. :)

Not sure yet. I don't really have plans for a oriental type area, except maybe Nepal, but thats a small area ( and the plan was it was going to be a mountain) that was going to already have a coaster and not sure if this will fit. I will try. I want to get as many different rides crammed in as possible.

THX again to all that provide wonderful comments and feed back.

Here are my artsy shots from this area. Some better than others, but I like to try new/different options every time.

I like the second one the best. It looks like a very old postcard of a real park. If I saw that posted anywhere else on the internet, I'd never know it was Planet Coaster.

I like that second image 'postcard', as well. Makes me wonder where it's been and how it came to look like that: Originally photographed in 1897, then made into an albumen print postcard in 1903, bought from a souvenir stand in 1904 when it was folded up and carried around in someone's pocket for 23 years, discarded into a trashcan on a sidewalk, which tipped over during a torrential thunderstorm, causing the postcard to float down the runoff next to a curb on a busy street where it was run over and splashed with mud numerous times before it was 'rescued' by a passerby and dried out next to a wood stove, becoming a little too dry and hot, which caused all the darkening around the edges. Then wowman saw it online and posted it here. :P

I like the first pic, too. Sort of a watercolor wash with India ink outline. (No elaborate story for this one.)

So I had a few more blueprints I used in this section that I didn't call out and want to give credit where credit is due. I have so much I start to lose track of where these are all placed.

-Petite scène d'Egypte by Dezax
-Fence Adventure by YouYou Parachute
-Bucket O' Tools by TheShaudi
-[Kasi Mbio] Lodge by Floss
-Pieces from Safari Shops and Facilities Pack by troopermatthew

THX again to all the workshop contributors as I couldn't make my parks without them.

Moving onto the second part of Harambe.

Here is an overview map of the entire Harambe area. if you draw a line about right through the middle of this shot...what's to the right is what we covered already and now we will move to the left side of this photo.

To get to this area you continue past the Croc enclosure on your right

To the left is a crossing area for trucks and staff to get to the animal enclosures. If you saw earlier in this thread. I got those crossing gates timed and working when trains pass by. Truck provided by 'aritario's Safari Trucks by aritario'.

I love those beehive-style thatched roofs. What the heck is that floating stuff in the last pic? (rocks and trees) Avatar's floating mountains?

Ha - that is just temp placed blueprints off in the distance that I may use for other areas of the park. I usually try to avoid getting them in pics as they are not permanent decisions yet. That one just happens to be floating higher.

Continuing down the walkway, we have a refreshments stand on the right. The stone path covering is pieces from the 'Ruine' pack by blackmanshadow sunk into the ground.

Wow, this Harambe area is KILLER!  You've certainly progressed quite far (I was like 4 pages behind) since I was last in here.  Glad to see my bad advice didn't hose you up.

This area is so full of magnificent stuff!  You are quite justified in being proud of it all.  And it looks like what I'd expect to see in Africa (never been there, just seen it on TV and flew over Egypt without stopping once).  I really like the whole village, the Croc ride, and of course that excellent chairlift station!

Keep up the good work!

PS:  Loved the video of my pagoda burning down.  I hope you replaced it with something more worthy of inclusion here.

The stone path looks great! Were the 'Ruine' pieces originally intended for walls? I suppose you could've used your patentedTM billboards and gotten similar results, but these have actual depth; and that seems to make all the difference. Good choice. Good usage.

And same here, Bullethead. Welcome back.

Yes - these are wall pieces set on their side. I just liked the look of the uneven pattern and how in some area the actual ground still shows through (because the walls have texture and are not flat walls)

They look fantastic!  The guests better watch their step though!  Don't want the park to get sued.

Turning down the back alley to get to the queue for Soaring Eagles, we have a pizza place on the right (Adventure Outpost: Pizza Pen by Stopdaan).

The queue goes through and around "Caribbean / tropical house by OxidizedLady"

I had to make some modifications to it to make the queue path fit and go through the garden in the back and up through the building.

That fence is clever, and I also like the detail on the right building (1st picture), the texture of that really caught my eye
