Planet Zoo / Re: Zoo Midwest- 12/13/2019 New Ape Habitat
« on: January 04, 2020, 05:01 PM »

Worked on lighting and some interior details.  I was not sure if I would build the interior of the class room spaces but decided to go ahead even though the peeps do not use the spaces in the game.  The classroom on the right in particular since it has windows, the other side is setup as a theater for lectures, educational videos, films etc.

Almost finished with the chimpanzee viewing platform also.

To prove I actually have a plan when I start out sometimes here is an early progress shot of the new ape facility.

This would represent a very new addition to Zoo Midwest.  There will be two great apes housed here.  There is outdoor habitat and indoor for when the weather is not idea for the apes to be outdoors.  There also is also some multi use spaces that can be used as classrooms, theaters for education or meeting rooms.  There is a large patio and concessions also.

I have a couple of ideas for a cover over the patio that will help improve the looks of this side of the building.

This end would be the room that could be used as a theater for educational use, documentaries, films conservation, lectures etc.

This side is classroom space

The glass pieces are nice in the game.  I like where you are going with the tiger habitat if I had any constructive criticism for how I see the glass roofs handled often though it is that not many people are considering how it would be supported. There would need to be some additional support for that design.  Depending on what level of detail you want you might consider that it would take it up a notch.  I like the entrance, like the terrain shifts and path work.

Wow, thank you!   I am very please people like this project so far.   It really is my first project in a "planet" series where I did not set a lot of limitations on the architecture.

The story of this zoo is that it is not a new zoo but a zoo that is undergoing a lot of changes.  The indoor rain forest exhibit is a big expansion to the zoo's original indoor exhibit so there are two distinct styles on the building and its pretty clear the new portion is an addition probably had major corporate sponsorship or funding from donors to expand the original exhibits.

Thank you guys.

This park has a long history of course going back to when I started RCT3 and it always transitioned with the fictional amusement park company behind it, at the last of my work in RCT3 I was redeveloping my parks moving away from just amusement parks to be actual theme parks that tried to have actual themed areas that were consistent.   I am trying to reflect that in this version of the park with some amusement part still left but definitely more themed areas.  Even the midway has a theme as you will see.

The history of this park even in RCT3 was that it had been a military camp, then used as a fairgrounds before it was turned into an amusement park.  Fox Amusements purchased it and for a time tried to keep up with Cedar Point and Magic Mountain on coasters but now it is in transition, not removing big coaster but trying to do more for the atmosphere of the park and bring in some themed attractions.

Some of the fixing I am doing is to add some details and Easter eggs around the park and improving some of the buildings with new scenery that has been made available.

In the RCT3 park I had a couple of restaurants in this area but they have been re-located to the warehouse district and a games midway was built in this area.

On to the midway.

That will help.  The version of your park on the workshop runs decently on my PC, its a little laggy but not bad

Nice walkthrough!  Do you have some lag when moving about in that park?

I have been away a bit longer than expected.

This project is massive, it was not the right thing to start in Planet Coaster with but I have not given up on it.  I have been fixing a lot of things lately and have done some new stuff.

Thanks everyone.  By the way I updated this last week reducing the piece count significantly on the standard booth and added a corner booth.  Everything looks the same just fewer pieces.

Thanks for the kind  remarks I appreciate it!   I am almost done with this pizzeria, time to start looking for motivation for the place next door.  But here are a few more screen shots.

Been a while since I glanced at this. I am happy to see you making subtle changes. An eye for edits is possibly one of the skills that takes a while to gain. Overall, I love this park because you are taking real buildings and recreating them to be as close as possible to the real thing. The backstage areas are a strong point because that adds to the realism. This park is definitely going to keep getting better.

Thank you, and I hope it keeps getting better.  Started out slow and a bit rough as I was really just figuring out how to do things along the way.

Those last screenshots are really impressive. The lighting is just perfect.

Thank you!  I always have liked lighting things, finding there are tricks to it in this game.

So real...hard to tell the difference between your screenshots and the reference photos!  Looks amazing.

Thank you!   I try to find building examples that will translate well to how we have to construct things in the game.

Progress over the past week was slow, several days I had little time or little energy and this weekend I spent what time I did have fussing over the interior of the pizzeria.

A few booths for diners and restaurants with simple tables.

Catfish Cove has always been one of my favorites with every version of Wonder World.  Looking forward to seeing what you do with it in Planet Coaster.

Moving on to the Warehouse District.

This area replaces part of what was a western area in the RCT3 park called Carbon Creek.   For a long time I had plans to re-theme that area of the park if I ever renovated or rebooted Highland Lakes.  The reason is because I took the idea of the area which was supposed to be themed around the California Gold Rush and created a full park called Carbon Canyon City.  Both parks were supposed to be in Northern California so to me it made sense that after building an entire park around the gold rush theme that the themed area in Highland Lakes would be re-themed to something else.

The Warehouse District is an area for several sit down restaurants, shops, etc.

Some early progress.

And a bit further along...

By the way there is a version of that water tower on the Steam Workshop.  You can find it on the workshop board here at SGW

Cyclone Sam's is a Mack Hully Gully ride if memory serves, there is some really badly done scenery in the building consisting of some pretty janky lighting and neon paintings and black lights.   But yea mostly just a flat ride in a building.

Your version of the park is great, where it sticks to what is really there you are pretty spot on and where you take some liberties its in many ways better than what is actually there today.

Great progress.  Love the night time shots, lighting looks fantastic.  That woody along the water edge looks great!

And old steel water tower that can fit in to several styles or themes from small town to steam punk to industrial or urban.

Really like the food building, (what did you use for window slats on the roof towers?)  But that city stairwell leading down next to the building is truly a perfect touch.  Lots of great details throughout, and I like that you're showing WIP shots and then following up with your edits.  This is all turning out great.

That is a disguised SciFi piece called Fiberglass Ventilation Unit, there are two of them side by side disguised by wood posts and planks.

Love that new screenshot.

I guess I was really thinking offset. All the structures in a row, with none set back a tile or two to break up the long wall, if you follow. Again, it might just be the pics themselves.

Still really looking forward to water tower world!

I know what you mean and there is some variation.   The town squares I was basing most of this on have very little variation but I did create some.

One last look around for now...

here is the source for the building above, notice the barber pole and shop on the lower level.  I moved the stairs to the side to have more room on my version.

Source images for some of these buildings.

Another source image

Last one for today...
