I am still playing. I post less often as I have less to show for it, but I am very much 'still here'.

For the last 3 years I've been working upon a steampunk / retro-sci-fi themed park called Future Expo / Future World 1899. It's been built, demolished and rebuilt so many times that I even had a create a post purely to track which rides were released from which version of the park. The amount of times I restarted the park essentially became a bit of a joke.

The reconstruction of the park over time was out of a sense of frustration to get it 'right'. The last iteration though became something different. Apart from a few structures, I binned almost everything. Though the broader theme was retained, it became immediately clear that what I had actually done was begin a new park.

In an effort to shed the skin of the previous park, and truly mark a new chapter in the development of the project, I would like to formally draw a line under Future World 1899.

Future World 1899 is no more.

Welcome to METROPOLIS 1899.

The broad theme is the same, but I want to breathe 'life' into the park. This is a city, with opticians, laundrettes, barbers with a rustic futuristic edge.

At present, the only 'returning' ride can be seen in the first image, with Hotel Futura making a return.

Also appearing is a recent 'challenge' ride I made, called The Invisible Man:

In terms of truly drawing a line under the unfinished saga of Future World 1899, I would like to create some videos / a video showing off the full details of the various abandoned versions. Depending on the reception to this I may also release the Steam Workshop park files of these previous versions.



Both iEddiez and I have completed our rides!

The Invisible Man is a compact steampunk dark ride themed to the eponymous Invisible Man. It's a story driven dark ride taking riders through the inception of the invisibility through to a bank robbery. Whilst not yet put in the park, the ride is themed to fit in with the facades of Future World 1899. Unlike other rides I've made, the sound effects and music are synchronized in Planet Coaster itself with in game sounds, so the workshop download is the same experience as the video.

Heth's entry - House of the Invisible Man

My entry is still work in progress, but we wanted to be provide teasers for both our rides. My entry is called House of the Invisible Man, and is designed to fit in with my existing Future World steampunk style park. The ride takes guests through the house of the mad scientist Adrian Griffin as he tried to turn himself invisible.

Now it's iEddiez turn to post his entry teaser....

Now P8ntball is a name I recognise. That is one incredibly nostalgic post! I do miss those days but I know that quite a few names you mention are kicking around still.

As sure as the sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening, I take an axe to Future World and retool about 90% of it!

What was my problem this time? I felt that I was missing the small scale details which would make the park truly pop. Rather than delete all structures I've moved them to one side and editing those I wish to keep one by one.

I think it's a step in the right direction!

Thanks! I've been clinging onto that skin for quite some time before actually using it!

2 coasters (Diesel Power and Switchback)
1 dark ride (Copper Caves)
3 flat rides (Gears of Power, Propeller and Titan Tower)

My answer is very much to level up!

I've continued work on my 20 x 20 park, Rustica. The dark ride is nestled under other rides and rockwork, and no rides are underground.

That postcard screenshot looks fantastic. Almost real!

So good to see you back ZigZou (I still fondly remember Eden Log!). This looks fantastic. The sets look really intricate.

The quality of the park and the way the images are shown makes this look very realistic.

The level of detail on this project is absolutely unbelievable. Wow.

Obviously the detail and sets inside are great, but the detail put into the backstage areas really makes me happy!

I am thankfully feeling better now than I did at the start of lockdown.

I was due to get married at the start of April. We got engaged in 2018 and so it was incredibly upsetting to get within a fortnight of the wedding and having to cancel. Obviously the honeymoon was also cancelled, and to really top it off my fiancee had her FB account hacked, losing all her photos, her car broken into and our oven broke as well. Work has nearly dried up at my office (I'm an architect) and most of my colleagues are on leave as a result. It's tough.

I'm doing my best to be positive but it's hard! Day to day I'm taking care of myself, but when this year was supposed to be so positive (I am also 30 later this year and was due to do a bumper holiday to celebrate, which likely won't happen now) it's hard to keep that up!

I am fortunate that I live with my partner, I'm healthy (I have a long standing and serious condition but it is under control and not a risk with Covid 19) and we recently moved into a house with a garden before all this kicked off. I live in a nice and quiet area, so there are worse places to be stuck.

Hi everyone,

During this lockdown period iEddiez and I talked about doing a collaboration. Instead, something else came up: a competition.

First Challenge

We decided to challenge each other to make the best park we could with only a 20 x 20 grid in Planet Coaster.

The rules:

The park must have one coaster, one non-coaster ride, an eatery and toilets as a minimum.
The whole park must be contained within a standard Planet Coaster 20 x 20 grid.

Simple premise!

Both parks are work-in-progress at the moment, but we thought we'd share.


Park 1 - Hethetheth (AKA HS Designs)


So far this park has 2 coasters, a flat ride and a dark ride. All of these remain unfinished at present! I wanted to try and cram in a tiny dark ride, which is really quite hard. The two coasters were easier to fit in. The theme is sort of an industrial / rocky aesthetic rather than a 'story'.

I'll leave it to iEddiez to show off his creation now :)



So, a bigger update today.

I have been working a lot on this project in the evenings during lockdown. This has included new rides and the removal of some old rides. I've also moved a few things around.

Most recent addition is a skyway ride which takes guests from the entrance, over the city, and down at the top of the park.

You might notice that the flying coaster is gone. In its place is an inverted coaster, Icarus, which navigates the front of the park.

The station for Icarus is very tight and tucked into the buildings of the park.

Metropolis Express winds its way through most of the park, and is a Taron-style launched coaster.

Revolutions' station is just at the end of this promenade of buildings, but the ride is still just a facade.


At the moment the park consists of the following mostly finished rides.

Metropolis Express - launched train-themed coaster that weaves around the buildings.
Icarus - inverted coaster themed to flying machines
Balloonatics - Spinning balloon flat ride
Magnet-Rail - peoplemover scenic ride around the city
Skywheel - Ferris wheel
Turbine - Industrial themed pendulum ride
Taxi Twist - Classic 'whip' ride themed to taxis
Hotel Futura - Steampunk hotel themed dark ride
Skyway - Gondola ride

I am planning to add more rides, but I'm thinking that, since this has taken so long, I might hold some back for later seasons so I can FINALLY open this park!

Life hasn't been particularly great the last month. I was due to get married in just under 2 weeks. Sadly, the Covid-19 outbreak has changed that. It's been very upsetting, and it's even harder to get over that when in Quarantine!

However, it's given me some PC time I guess, that's something...

Long time with no update! Went to Phantasialand recently and felt inspired to weave a multi-launch coaster through Future World 1899 as well as a flying coaster.

Hotel Futura will actually be the only ride carried over exactly as it is, though the exterior may change. It's a rare ride where there's nothing I want to change internally!

Underground Express survives...sort of. I've merged the themes of Underground Express, Skyrider and Iron Bullet into one train themed mine train ride with the interior dark underground themed section and a big outdoor section going around skyscrapers and buildings. It is called Metropolis Express.
