_______________________________________________________________

Hello to all!

Welcome to the final voting thread of this year's Winter Showdown '09. This is the culmination of many weeks of hard work on the contestants park. All of the entries are very impressive. I commend all the teams for making a great effort, especially considering the difficulties of the past few weeks. However, let us not dwell on these issues, and instead enjoy the final product of the competition. Here's a quick recap of the teams, challeneges, etc. for those who have not been following the competition.

The Teams:

RocknGuitar, Maylene, sushyplz

Themeparknerd, Deepo1

Lonewolf7, 03Gibbss, JRCH123

FlyingDutchman7, RangerStudios, Orez

Littleguy29, LostThought15, RCT-Extremist

Gluesniffa, Johnycanon8, Immelman

The Challenges:

Challenge 1 - Winter is all about having fun in the snow. Building snowmen, snowforts and snowball fights. Its a winter wonderland outside, but inside, toasting your feet by the fire and sipping a piping hot cup of hot chocolate. Can you name a better way to spend your time? That's just the idea, your first challenge is to create an escape from the chilly winter outside, so folks can come inside to warm treats, and a place to relax. It must contain some form of hot chocolate bar and a fireplace to heat the area around. There must also be seating for people to rest their weary feat. This will be the main theme of your design, be it log cabin, ski resort or ice palace, the choice is yours.

Challenge 2 - "The weather out side is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, when there's no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" As in the classic song, we are in for a frosty winter this time of year. Why not live it up with some thrills. Your second challenge is to theme two flat rides and a couple buildings of your choosing, to snow and ice. Anything that has a connection to the two will work in this round. Make sure its a chiller!

Challenge 3 - For your third and final challenge, your job is too make create the staple of theme parks around the world. A roller coaster. There are not too many requirements, they are as follows: The ride must be no higher than 250ft. This is measured from the highest point of the ride to the lowest point. Custom CTRs are allowed. As usual, theme it to blend well with the rest of the park. That is the easy part of the challenge, from here, it gets a bit more complicated.

The third and final condition, is it must interact with a second ride. Not to the point of dueling rides, think more complimenting rides. There must be at least three major interactions. The catch is this second ride must be a non-coaster tracked ride. The rest of the design is up to you. There are a lot of different ways this can be accomplished, so lets really think outside the box.

Information:

- Throughtout the competition, the teams have been kept secret, and will be kept that way until voting has ended.
- There are two ways to enjoy the submissions
     a. Download the entire package. Jmainaz was kind enough to let me use his website to host the files. Click on the download link, and you will receive all of the pictures, park files and billboards to enjoy on your computer. Please note that the videos are NOT included, to keep the download time to a minimum. (Recommended)
     b. If for whatever reason, you do not wish to download the files, the sets are posted on Flickr so you can click through to view. (Not recommended.)
- Teams were not required to submit a video. The videos that were submitted are posted on YouTube. Links are below.
- The submissions are presented in a random order.

Voting:

- Vote for your TWO favorite entries.
- Remember the teams are confidential. Even if you have an idea, please be objective with your choices.
- Voting will close at midnight PST, on January 31st.

Lastly, thank you to all the teams who pushed through and finished this. Despite my best efforts to ruin this through incompetence, everyone did a great job.  Wink

Enjoy!

Bleugh, we have to find out the captions of team 4&5 ourselves, bleugh!

Anyway, I suppose that we, competitors, aren't supposed to vote...

It's teams 1 and 2 for me, easily.

Team 1: Those first photos starting at the bottom of the hill and looking up at the chairlift station, beautiful. The lighting is spot-on and the landscaping is very impressive. The amount of time spent on all of that wood from the supports of both tracks to the indoor ride. There are so many small details that make this a winner for me, but keeping it short; the buildings are creative, the park layout looks fluid, and the levels created by the rides and landscape are stunning. Great work for such a short amount of time.

Team 2: This park won my vote mainly for the building structures that were just incredible, so inspiring and slick. I'd have like to have seen a lot more of the coaster, but I'm guessing it was unfinished going by the lack of supports in some of the pictures. Like I say, the buildings, mainly the indoor pool complex structure, are just perfect - but the lack of coaster or rides was a bit off putting.

You should all be happy, some of the ideas in these parks are very inspiring and well done to SVT for keeping this going.

Thank you SVT, for getting everything put together.
It was delightful to see all of the entries, though, as a competitor, I shall withhold my vote.

Looking good teams! After all the turbulence that's been going on during the competition we have managed to produce some great stuff! Good luck in the voting everyone!

excellent job to all teams! I really enjoy what I thought looked like n747's park for sure until I found out he wasn't in the showdown. Wink, as well as Team 1's roller coaster with all the wrecked track. really job, very creative!

I'm a big fan of matching rides with other music, and I have to recommend watching Team 1 Movie 1 with the Calvacave music. Start them both at the same time, and you will find that the music fits perfects with the ride. Just a recomendation since it doesn't have any music. It's really cool, trust me. Wink

btw start Flamatraz at 0:08. that works very nicely as well.

All of the entries are fantastic! I had to view them all at least twice!
In the end, I voted for team 1 and 5.
Team 1 had an amazing coaster and flume ride. The surrounding area was also spectacular!
Team 5 had so much detail in every inch of the park, it made my jaw drop! Then to think it was all indoors, made me go "Wow!" even more!

I loved all those entries!
This was probably one of the most succesful contests I have ever seen!
Team 1:
WOW! I love the amazing detail of your rides and buildings. It reminds me of the winter night, so wonderfully peaceful... I voted for this one.
Team 2:
This park is pretty nice, but I dislike the tropical pool. It makes it feel too tropical, even if It is indoors. However, I like the modern-ness of the park. I almost voted for this one.
Team 3:
This park was a nice and cheerful park, and the architecture was amazing, but it felt like it was missing an atmosphere.
Team 4:
I like this park for its wonderful holiday spirit, its cheerful and lighted up premises make me feel christmasy. I voted for this one because of its cheerful holiday spirit.
Team 5:
Sorry, but I really dislike this park. The indoor part about this park makes me feel un-wintery. Along with that, there was snowy trees, alongside red, and green trees with absolutely no snow on them! The ground was grassy when it should have been snowy! I really liked the coasters though.
Team 6: This park was another close second for me. I liked the cheerfulness of this one too, and the wonderful architecture and layout made me consider voting for this park.

Those are my comments about these parks.
Overall, every one of these parks is wonderful, and I really like them all!
It was hard voting for the parks.

SVT, when are you looking to close the poll? I'd like to know when to have a park review ready, since posting now would give away park creators.

Teams 1 and 2 for me, and not because I'm lazy, haha. Team 1, I loved the rollercoaster and flume, and wood, and snow, and everything. Just wow. Team 2, I just loved all the details. I think these two had me most impressed in terms of detail, architecture and rides. Smiley

Team 5 almost had my vote, but ultimately the indoor-ness, while incredible, impressive and awe-inspiring, took away from the winter theme for me. I can just imagine my frustration visiting a park in winter with it snowing, then going inside. I think, as mentioned above, the lack of a cohesive snow covering was also somewhat damaging of the theme. I hope the team post it in a thread though, be it with or without its winter covering. Well the real intention of this post was to ask when the voting will close.  Is it when it reaches a certain number of votes, it there a date, has it been abandoned...?
